“Hypnotic and scary.” —Stephen King

In the compulsively readable sequel to her widely acclaimed debut novel, You, Caroline Kepnes weaves a tale that Booklist calls “the love child of Holden Caulfield and Patrick Bateman.”

In Hidden Bodies, the basis for season two of the hit Netflix series, You, Joe Goldberg returns.

Joe is no stranger to hiding bodies. In the past ten years, this thirty-something has buried four of them, collateral damage in his quest for love. Now he’s heading west to Los Angeles, the city of second chances, determined to put his past behind him.

In Hollywood, Joe blends in effortlessly with the other young upstarts. He eats guac, works in a bookstore, and flirts with a journalist neighbor. But while others seem fixated on their own reflections, Joe can’t stop looking over his shoulder. The problem with hidden bodies is that they don’t always stay that way. They reemerge, like dark thoughts, multiplying and threatening to destroy what Joe wants most: true love. And when he finds it in a darkened room in Soho House, he’s more desperate than ever to keep his secrets buried. He doesn’t want to hurt his new girlfriend—he wants to be with her forever. But if she ever finds out what he’s done, he may not have a choice…

The story and character development was interesting. I enjoyed Book 1 much more than this one, but this was also a very strong piece. I recommend you read it and judge it for yourself.

Reading the first book, I was amazed with the ability of the author to write in such a way that made me unable to put the book down. The first book was captivating, and horrifying, it really captured the essence of a stalker, and how dangerous men like Joe can be. This book is a poor continuation of the first book. Joe is much like a teenager in this book, the only thing on his mind is lust. Moreso, Love is frankly an unbearable character, and is nothing like her character in the show. Her sole personality trait is her ridiculous wealth, throwing underwear away after one use.. I cant stand reading about her in this way. She seems ridiculous and shallow, I see none of the duality of her warmth and cunning from the show. She is written like a kiddie pool, I’m not surprised the screenwriters went with a different direction regarding her. Do not recommend anyone reading this if they loved Love from the show, her character being written like this just put a bad taste in my mouth and gave me the indication that Joe has horrible taste in women.

Overall, I can say that it wasn’t as good as the first book however I was finding myself reading this fairly quickly in order to find out what happens next. It’s hardly anything like the tv show so don’t expect anything like that. I actually think the second season of the show is better than this block, plot wise. Though I’ll still be reading the next book in this serious as it does keep me fairly interested.

This author does not follow the show don’t tell rule. This story felt sloppy and rushed. The ending was not satisfying. While I enjoyed the first book I wish I stopped there.

I finished this book within 3 days and I gotta say it was a great one. As you read you really want to find out what’s going to happen to you keep reading. I find myself always rooting for Joe. I don’t wanna put spoilers here but the reason I gave this book 4 stars was due to the ending. It’s a cliffhanger ending and I hope the third book is released soon.

She should have stopped while she was ahead with “You.” What’s the point in developing a character just to throw him away? Joe in this book behaves nothing like Joe in”You.” In “You”, Joe is obsessive, thoughtful, patient, and unrelenting. Joe in this book easily forgets about Amy and randomly decides to be a writer. There are multiple grammatical and spelling errors, little attention to detail (Amy’s eyes magically change color from one book to the next), the plot is a cocktail of half-baked ideas. The book starts off with a compelling cat and mouse, but veers off on what I thought was a tangent, the Love/Forty gobbledegook. I plowed through hoping for the best, to no avail. Stay away from books that use emojis within the prose.

This was just a good a read as YOU. I thought Joe was gonna get off unscathed since everything g was going so right for him after 40 died but as life is getting good, when everything seems right something always goes wrong. It was nice to see the end of Joe’s story. He seems to have evolved past killing ppl. I can only imagine what kind of father he’ll be if he even gets out of jail, which I think he won’t if the cops look in the right places.
