Description

In this riveting sequel to the national bestseller The Queen of the Tearling, the evil kingdom of Mortmesne invades the Tearling, with dire consequences for Kelsea and her realm.

With each passing day, Kelsea Glynn is growing into her new responsibilities as Queen of the Tearling. By stopping the shipments of slaves to the neighboring kingdom of Mortmesne, she crossed the Red Queen, a brutal ruler whose power derives from dark magic, who is sending her fearsome army into the Tearling to take what is hers. And nothing can stop the invasion.

But as the Mort army draws ever closer, Kelsea develops a mysterious connection to a time before the Crossing, and she finds herself relying on a strange and possibly dangerous ally: a woman named Lily, fighting for her life in a world where being female can feel like a crime. The fate of the Tearling —and that of Kelsea’s own soul—may rest with Lily and her story, but Kelsea may not have enough time to find out.

In this dazzling sequel, Erika Johansen brings back favorite characters, including the Mace and the Red Queen, and introduces unforgettable new players, adding exciting layers to her multidimensional tale of magic, mystery, and a fierce young heroine.

I don't know what it is about Erika Johansen's writing, but it hooks me in. Lily's point of view was so intriguing and The Invasion of the Tearling was fantastic ! I really love the way the book was written. Kelsea is such a strong character and we can really see her grow up and experience life in this book !
  • Good book. Next one's price ridiculous.

I enjoyed the first two books, but $13 for an electronically delivered book is a ripoff by publishers. Hardcover is $1 more for all the extra expense of paper and ink, power hungry printers, rent on a building to house the printers and the employees to run the printers, instead of cost to send an ebook already written on a computer, which has already been done for printing. Besides taking a good length story and chopping it into 3 pieces to increase profit. Nice racket.

This book improved upon the first one in every way. It is so much fun for me to see so much character development in a book like this. Kelsey embodies all the qualities of an honorable queen. The second to last chapter with Kelsey in the tent was heart stopping! And unlike the review above me, I like that Kelsey got prettier as time went on - there is nothing wrong with a beautiful queen and it fits with the powers of the necklace. The Father Tyler chapter was so suspenseful I almost fell down in suspense! I hope we learn more about the Fetch and what his true nature is as well as Arlin Finn. I listen to audiobooks every day of my life as I clean each day and this trilogy (though we don't have book 3 yet) has been added to my rotation. I hope the author reads this review and knows that she deserves to sit at the same table wth J.K. Rowling, Stephenie Myer, Suzanne Collins and Veronica Roth. The ending left us on a cliff hanger and I am looking at my calendar often looking forward to November 29, 2016 when we will be able to buy the Fate of the Tearling (final book announced on Facebook). This book will get a lot more reviews and will sell millions when the movie trailer comes out for the first movie. These books had a movie deal before they were even published and it is easy to see why! Grade: A+

It only took me three days to finish this book, and I'm already scouring the Internet to find when the third one will be released! The characters are so 3 dimensional and relatable with the plot line wrapping you up so tightly that you lose your sense of time and self, even... What an incredible concept and an incredible story so far. I was wrapped up in this story just as much as Kelsea was wrapped up in Lily's! I can't say enough good things about it, READ THIS BOOK!!!

I loved this book. The suspense was very amazing. There were so many things that shocked me and intrigued me like the Red Queen is related to Kelsea. When Pen and Kelsea had sex 😮😮😮 Love. I still can't wait for the next one, I need to know who Kelsea's father is. In the book it said it was a Tear descendent, so it could be William Tear. I hope that Lily gets to see her sister . I really want Pen and Kelsea to work. Can't wait for book 3
  • Sorry, this sequel was a kind of a bust

I read the first book and thought it was pretty good. It held my attention throughout. But this sequel just didn't live up. Why did Johansen decide to make Kelsea turn pretty? I liked her better when she was ugly. Plus really, the magical stuff just gets ridiculous after a while. If someone has magical powers , they can always invoke magic to beat their enemies. Don't bother with this sequel.

Fantastic... Engrossing! This fantasy/ sci-fi hybrid is original and spectacularly written. Ms. Johansen writes characters instantly recognizable and surprising without cliche. And the flashbacks to before the Crossing adds great tension and interest. I devoured the first two books and cannot wait until the next.
