Description

Reviewing for the Ophthalmology Oral Board Examination on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac computer is now possible. State of the art audiovisual technology makes it easy to read and /or listen to Posterior Pole case presentations with “bytes” of advice from a retinal specialist experienced in ABOP oral board format, preparation, and presentation techniques. Audio format is ideal for the car. Listen or read at your desk, easy chair, or even in bed. Convert small bits of valuable time into “bytes” of effective Board review time.

Practice case scenarios are organized to allow users to either read, and/or listen to each page. The first page is a patient photo with brief history, which imitates the actual oral board format. The second page is an ideal Oral Board Presentation of that case. The third page consists of unique “Guiding Bytes” of advice derived from the author’s experience.

Use of this book will not only enhance the candidate’s fund of knowledge but also increase the ability to verbalize it effectively for the oral exam.

Using the book made me a better case presenter. I recommend it highly and wish I would have found it sooner. It would be a fabulous preview and prep for the face-to-face practice orals given in courses such those offered by the Osler Institute.

This is not just another book of oral exam questions and factoids. It is written with the latest iBooks audio-visual technology for convenient listening or reading. Each case study has three ways to review material and learn to present the case. The recommended topic outline method of presenting each case in the same format makes presentations smooth and succinct. The book’s interactive process not only provides case studies; it also lets the user analyze his own presentations and then read or listened to the author’s concise and consistent presentation for each case. These case presentations with graphics, text, and audio are a flexible way to review clinical facts and practice presentation technique. It is wonderful to hear the author’s “Guiding Bytes” which are pertinent useful “pearls”. A free sample case is provided to “get the idea”. It was surprising to me how much could be packed into a smooth 2-3 minute presentation. The case facts, diagnostic aids, and treatment plans are current and need no updates since the book was just recently published. By carrying an iPhone or iPad with you, bits of unexpected spare time can be converted to good board review time. I highly recommend this iBook. It was $100 well spent.
