Jed's life takes a new path as Rowlett's new head football coach in a rural high school near his hometown. He believes that his drive that delivered him from this same area to the pros will make him successful coaching too, but Jed quickly learns that Rowlett's recently fired former coach, Mr. Bowman, is also his bitter athletic director. Bowman makes a promise to see Jed fail. In Rowlett, the Bowman loyalists group has their own ideas about the football program. This group pushes their own agenda developed and set into motion in the coffee shops and bleacher seats. Jed struggles to find a way to rebuild a team while facing adversity from almost every side.
