Description

A glimpse into the history… an adventure in the past…
Meriwether Lewis and William Clark were two ordinary guys who were sent to command an expedition across the United States. The expedition, also known as the Corps of Discovery Expedition, was the first American expedition, whose main goal was to explore the wilderness and map the newly acquired territory, to find practical routes across the Western half of the continent and establish the American presence before any other country tries. This was important because the president Thomas Jefferson, who commissioned the expedition, wanted to find the most direct and practicable water communication across the continent, for the purpose of commerce. The other goals were of scientific and economic nature.
The expedition started in May 1804 and ended in September 1806.
This book gives an overview of the expedition itself, describing the adventure from its start to its end, and its effect on the history of the United States.
In it you will read about:
• The characteristics of Lewis and Clark • The expedition • The terms of the Commission • The beginning of the expedition • The journey through the west • The findings • The returning, and the end of the expedition • The life of Lewis and Clark after the expedition
This book represents a brief description of the expedition and a part of the history of the United States. As such, it has cultural value and it is a good adventure story for all those who are interested in expeditions.
