Description

From New York Times bestselling author, J. Daniels, comes a second chance, enemies to lovers standalone romance.

Luke Evans is a heartbreaker.
I didn’t want to give mine to him. Not when he kept me out.
He gave me enough, just enough to make me fall in love with him. I say this to convince myself. But I know the truth.
I would’ve fallen in love with him at a distance.
Handing my heart over to Luke was the easiest thing I’ve ever done. I was naive when I wished for more, when I hoped he wanted the same things I did.
I try to hate him. I try to forget him.
But it’s not that easy.
Love is a ruthless bitch, and I’m her latest victim.

Tessa Kelly is a man-eater.
When she sets her sights on you, she doesn’t just consume your heart, she goes for your soul.
What we had was perfect, real, and all I would ever want.
But she destroyed it.
She destroyed us.
I try to hate her. I try to forget her.
But it’s not that easy.
Love is for people who have hope, and I have none.

I went directly to book two of the series after reading Ben and Mia's story. After the ease of the love between the characters in the first story, I was surprised at the amount of push and pull between Tessa and Luke throughout the book. No matter how hard they tried, it always seemed they were taking one step forward only to take several steps back. It was emotional and raw. I wanted to scream and shake them. Frustrated at their continued stubbornness and pride. But I LOVED EVERY PAGE, and I found myself rooting for them more than I have any other book couple. This series is so addictive!!!

I've always loved a series because I feel a connection to the characters. Book 2 was great! It gets 4.5 instead of 5 like the first one though because Tessa's back & forth antics had me so frustrated at times! But I loved reading the rest of Luke and Tessa's story. & of course I loved seeing little Nolan still in the book and his parents as well.
  • Another great book in the series

"It shouldn't be possible, but I think the more you love someone, the easier they are to hate." Isn't it amazing how being so deeply in love with someone makes you want to commit murder? If you have read book 1 of the Alabama Summer series, you'll be familiar with the train wreck that is Tessa and Luke. As Author J. Daniels points out, this book could be a standalone. But really, do yourself a favor and read book 1. You'll want the back story to see how deeply the two main characters feel. The true mettle of a great author is that they immerse you in the character's world so deeply. You feel what they feel and turn to hope for a better ending. I'll tell you, I was feeling this. There were parts of the story where - toss a coin- I was going to slap the crap out of either character. Didn't matter. They were both so stubborn, pigheaded and closed off. Yep, I was going to throw the eBook at one point I was so frustrated with them. But, pause, isn't that the telling tale that the writing was stellar? This is a must read series for me. I loved the character interactions from the previous stories continue to make the read enjoyable when I wasn't feeling murderous. I'm not an overly angsty person, so in rating against the others, not my top #1 book. However, its still a great read. A rollercoaster to HEA with some very, very sexy scenes. 4 out of 5 'ebook came out unscathed' stars.
