Thomas Keightley (1789–1872) was an Irish writer mostly famous for his works on folklore and    mythology. His most notable works are Fairy Mythology (1850), and Mythology of Ancient Greece and Italy, a work on Popular Tales and their transmission from one country to another. Among other works he is also knows for his historical works and studies, like Lardner's Cabinet Cyclopædia (1829). His History of the War of Greek Independence (1830). Also he wrote number of school manuals.
The Soul Cages is a folk tale, based on a on an old German legend and collected by Thomas Keightley. The story follows Jack Dogherty, a hereditary fisherman, living with his wife in a remote house, away from the city, for the Dunbeg Bay was almost the property of Dogherty family. But something would eventually intervene into Jack’s peaceful life, because there would not be a story to tell otherwise.
