Description

A brilliant novel and instant New York Times bestseller from the author of Where'd You Go, Bernadette, about a day in the life of Eleanor Flood, forced to abandon her small ambitions and awake to a strange, new future.

Eleanor knows she's a mess. But today, she will tackle the little things. She will shower and get dressed. She will have her poetry and yoga lessons after dropping off her son, Timby. She won't swear. She will initiate sex with her husband, Joe. But before she can put her modest plan into action, life happens.

Today, it turns out, is the day Timby has decided to fake sick to weasel his way into his mother's company. It's also the day Joe has chosen to tell his office -- but not Eleanor -- that he's on vacation. Just when it seems like things can't go more awry, an encounter with a former colleague produces a graphic memoir whose dramatic tale threatens to reveal a buried family secret.

Today Will Be Different is a hilarious, heart-filled story about reinvention, sisterhood, and how sometimes it takes facing up to our former selves to truly begin living.

I really liked "Where Did You Go Bernadette" but this book jumped around and never really landed on a plot.

This book did not live up to its promise. It had no relationship to the title and the first and last pages. The story was all over the place and the writing was dreadful. Big let down after Bernadette which was charming and funny.
  • Hard to follow - disjointed

I had a difficult time following the book and found myself skipping through the chapters trying to wade through the over described settings, people, relationships. Also confusing was the first and third person changes. I was not able to finish this book.

I'm a huge fan of Where'd you go Bernadette It was hilarious, clever and smartly written with great characters. This book rambles and was hard to follow. It barely made any sense and I kind of hated all the characters. I kept reading thinking "this can't be it. More is coming" but it never does.

Had to stop reading when she left her dog outside Cosco. I get that it's fiction but it didn't sit well with me. Did NOT enjoy this book.
  • Disjointed & Pointless

Plot, such as it was, was disjointed and hard to follow. Narrative need not be linear, but this is a great example of sloppily executed non-linear. The protagonist is unlikable, which is fine on it's own; protagonists can be selfish jerks, but they should also be interesting, and the reader should feel they achieve some kind of understanding of the character and their journey. Not so here. Eleanor behaves like an absolute lunatic throughout, and you never really understand why. This was an absolute waste of time and money.

Based on the description, and how much I loved Where'd You Go Bernadette, I expected to love this book... It took me forever to finish (if I hadn't wasted $14 I would've given up about halfway through). The plot was so confusing and disjointed, the characters weren't likeable and the ending didn't provide any closure. Save your money!

I found this book exciting at first, then it became hard to follow. There are several spots of good insight into a woman's mind. But, overall, nay.
