Description

It all started with a packed club, loud music, and a lot of alcohol. Recovering from a broken heart, Jessie couldn’t keep her eyes off the exotic man drinking by himself. New in town, Kai couldn’t keep his gaze from the beautiful woman laughing with her friends at the bar. Fate pulled them together, giving Kai and Jessie one perfect night that neither would soon forget. But when the pair is reunited, and a hard, irrevocable truth is placed between them, their once-fond memory turns painful. As their paths cross over and over again, their ever-increasing passion must be denied, no matter what their hearts might say. Because some obstacles can’t be overcome.

I one-click purchased this book based solely that it was written by SC Stephens the same person who wrote The Thoughtless Series. While I thoroughly enjoyed that series I'm sad to say I was disappointed with this story. I understand this story was written before the other series and she waited to publish it but given the quality of the other series I would have expected better. It had great potential just not a great delivery. The opening scene was enticing and I had hoped for a juicy and seductive story but it became bogged down with the guilt instead. The story was heavily ladled with the notion that they were forbidden to be together yet wanted to be but could not. The story droned on about insignificant things that became unnecessary fillers causing the story to drag on for far too long. The story was boring, repetitive, and predictable. The premise started as a one night stand then switched to a forbidden romance with a shocking revelation. It's unfathomable how long this charade carried on for. They go through all the motions in life while secretly pining for each other. The story did not actually progress until about 80% into the storyline. Once the secret was revealed the story finally flowed giving closure in all areas. In regards to sex, there was plenty of oral, fingers, tongue, and penetration. They were not careful or shy in how they expressed their love. Too many what ifs? The story became melodramatic with the constant speculating by the characters. 2.5 review score
  • Dragged

Usually really like this author's work but this book just dragged. We all knew the big secret the main characters didn't and had to slog through too many repetitive episodes to get to the very obvious conclusion.

I have purchased every single one of S.C. Stephens' books, and not one of them has ever been a disappointment. It's All Relative called to my heart-wrenchingly romantic side just as much as all the rest. But more than just the romance is the way that her characters struggle and evolve throughout the story, the individuals Stephens dreamed up for this book are truly remarkable and I cannot wait until her next book is released. S.C. Stephens fan for life!
