Description

The Jackson family started out in a humble four room home in Gary, Indiana. But, due to the persistence and drive of their father, a group of singers known as the Jackson Five became the leading performers in this country.

The five brothers were Jermaine, Jackie, Tito, Marlon and, of course, Michael. After being signed by Motown Records, they became their biggest act, shadowing The Supremes and even Stevie Wonder. All of their first four singles went to number one, a feat that had never been done before.

This book chronicles the beginnings and the rise and eventual decline of the Jackson Five as a group. Michael is covered in his younger years when he was a part of the group. After Michael left the Jacksons, he went on to become "the King of Pop" and the greatest performer in the world during the Eighties. That adventure is chronicled in a separate book, "Legends of Rock & Roll - Michael Jackson (The Solo Years)".

All the Legends of Rock & Roll books are essentially biographies, but I am interested primarily in the music. You'll find that the emphasis is on the music, how it came to be, who wrote it and performed it and any juicy tidbits about any given song or album.
