- Genre: Biographies & Memoirs
Description
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • In this collection of personal essays, the beloved star of Gilmore Girls and Parenthood reveals stories about life, love, and working as a woman in Hollywood—along with behind-the-scenes dispatches from the set of the new Gilmore Girls, where she plays the fast-talking Lorelai Gilmore once again.
With a new bonus chapter
In Talking as Fast as I Can, Lauren Graham hits pause for a moment and looks back on her life, sharing laugh-out-loud stories about growing up, starting out as an actress, and, years later, sitting in her trailer on the Parenthood set and asking herself, “Did you, um, make it?” She opens up about the challenges of being single in Hollywood (“Strangers were worried about me; that’s how long I was single!”), the time she was asked to audition her butt for a role, and her experience being a judge on Project Runway (“It’s like I had a fashion-induced blackout”).
In “What It Was Like, Part One,” Graham sits down for an epic Gilmore Girls marathon and reflects on being cast as the fast-talking Lorelai Gilmore. The essay “What It Was Like, Part Two” reveals how it felt to pick up the role again nine years later, and what doing so has meant to her.
Some more things you will learn about Lauren: She once tried to go vegan just to bond with Ellen DeGeneres, she’s aware that meeting guys at awards shows has its pitfalls (“If you’re meeting someone for the first time after three hours of hair, makeup, and styling, you’ve already set the bar too high”), and she’s a card-carrying REI shopper (“My bungee cords now earn points!”).
Including photos and excerpts from the diary Graham kept during the filming of the recent Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, this book is like a cozy night in, catching up with your best friend, laughing and swapping stories, and—of course—talking as fast as you can.
Reviews
Loved it!
5By SCG-DAs a huge Gilmore girls fan, it was a no brainer for me to read this book. Lauren Graham is funny, witty, honest, and super cool. If you’re a fan of any of her work you’ll enjoy this glimpse into her career and life, as well as the lessons she’s learned from them!Loved it.
5By RN I kinda hate U allBought both the ebook and audiobook, ‘maybe someday’ no pun intended :) I’ll buy the paper copy too and have it autographed by Lauren! It is really a nice read filled with truly emotional bits here and there. There’s only one chapter that I kinda struggle to go through and probably the editor Jen -mentioned a couple of times should have cut it out :) but I read that too and the whole book works just fine. Well done!Perfect

5By RjamberThe book was funny and gave great insight. I felt like I was talking to an old friend. I love how it read like you were talking to Lorelai herself! I wish it was twice as long as it was!Really loved both of her books!!
5By CGraham05Smart and Beautiful!Great book!!
5By ShayBaby20045I loved this book so much that I read it within 2 days. I never read a book within 2 days. The book was filled with so much humor, I actually feel like I know Lauren personally (I wouldn't mind it actually). I always hoped that she was as funny and quirky as Lorelai Gilmore and she definitely is. I just finished Gilmore Girls and just started watching Parenthood. It's like I can't get enough of Lauren's humor. When she talks about Gilmore girls ending I got so sad because I am hoping so much that it comes back on because you know the cliffhanger....lol anyways if you're trying to decide whether to purchase the book or not...well, don't think just do it!! You won't regret it. Thanks Lauren for a great read. Love, One of your biggest fans xoxo P.S. Please return Lauren's coat!!Hoped for more
3By Jen31088888I LOVE Gilmore Girls and LOVE Parenthood so I was hoping for more stories and experiences from those shows. Instead she tells a lot of corny stories from early acting and very little GG and hardly any Parenthood. I love Lauren Graham so it's sad to not be able to give it a higher review.Sweet, sweet book
5By ragdiasI have laughed and almost cried as she takes us on her journey. Very vey sweet. Different from someday, someday but still witty and funny and this time, more personal.Fantastic read! Thank you!!
5By m0lly_elenaCan't say enough positive things! This fan is not disappointed!Reading as Fast as I Can!
5By JeremyWarI generally don't enjoy reading books but this was sooo good and gave me a lot of laughs! I loved this book! Lauren is as good of a writer as she is an actor. I could not put this book down and I just kept trying to read it so fast bc I couldn't wait to see what was next! Love love loved it!! Just like Gilmore Girls I hope for more!Loved it!
5By Instagram fanatic2I'm a huge Gilmore Girls and Parenthood fan so I already knew Lauren was a fabulous actor, but I had no idea she was such a talented writer and storyteller. I bought the book because I thought it would be fun to read an inside scoop on these shows (which she certainly delivers on) but I couldn't put it down because it was so much more than that! Definitely one of the best celebrity memoirs I've read - not because of any particular drama or event that she talks about, but because of her incredibly likable voice and way of drawing you in to her story. She's funny, thoughtful, and incredibly intelligent and that comes through immediately in the first chapter. This was a very enjoyable read and made me an even bigger fan of Lauren's than I already was. Download it - you won't regret it!Genuine love
5By Cnmro634What's the old cliche? "I laughed, I cried...." Well, cliche as it is, it remains true. I truly enjoyed every minute of this book, I'm sad to have finished it already. Lauren Graham is an absolute delight. I hope there's many books to follow, as I've already read them both and can quote nearly every line of the original Gilmore Girls series. What a wonderful adventure that was. Thank you, Lauren!Buy it!
5By DanyelljoyAs a hardcore Gilmore fan, I've always wanted to know more about Lauren's in depth thoughts about the show and especially her memories about the early episodes. Watching 3 minute interviews just doesn't cut it. This book has it all. It's cool to learn how she got to where she is today, and so humbly. It makes you feel even more connected to the show and love her even more as an actress.Great read!
5By LoidaloisI couldn't put it down. You feel like you're having coffee with Lauren. Please write more!Funny & Warm
4By AkrimayIt's 400 + pages long & I read it in 2 days; that's how much I liked it & didn't want it to end. It's funny, warm & honest. Much like her beloved alter ego Lorelai, Lauren will capture your heart.
