Widower Dr. Francis Avery is aboard a military whaling ship far out on the Atomic Sea when a series of murders onboard forces him to track down the killer. His quest unites him with a mysterious woman named Layanna, who was pulled from the Atomic Sea and holds the answers to many secrets.

Soon they will be plunged into an epic, globe-spanning quest to save Ghenisa and unravel the secrets of the Atomic Sea, or else the brutal Empire of Octung will triumph over all.
