Description

Captain Nathaniel Storm fell in love with Miss Isabella Valentine during the time of war. She followed the drum, he knew his duty. If not for the fear of making her a widow, Nate would have claimed her as his long ago.

Isabella knew Nate could never been hers, but that didn't stop her from dreaming of what could have been if her life was as she claimed. She thought never to see him again after he was reassigned to a different regiment, which was for the best. Until he returned...

His kisses spark lightening.

Her smile is as bright as the sun.

His eyes as green as new grass.

Hers as grey as a stormy sea.

His presence and touch, are tumultuous to her soul, tossing and turning her about, wondering when it would end. Will she weather her love for Captain Storm, or will it destroy her in the end?

On the eve of Waterloo, she is nearly within his grasp, but will Isabella's secrets make her as elusive as a rainbow after a summer rain.

I gave this four rather than five stars because the heroine didn’t have enough gumption and backbone to fight for her true love. I am sure that the author wrote her that way! For myself, it dragged and I talked to her to get beyond her insecurities. The premise and story line were original and intriguing!! Cathie

Weathering Captain Storm is book 2 in the Spirited Storms series by Jane Charles. Wow! I loved this book. It pulled me in immediately and held me captive. I couldn’t put it down. I loved the characters. Captain Nathaniel Storm is one of those endearing rogues that you can’t get enough of. And I loved Isabella Valentine - the tireless “Florence Nightingale” of the Napoleonic war. I loved that this Regency romance is set on a battlefield. It is so out of the box and surprising. “He stopped directly in front of her and slid a hand around her waist, drawing her against him. Isabella had no choice but to tilt her head back and look up so that she could see him. ‘But first…’Nate didn’t finish the sentence but took her lips and pulled her even closer. His mouth claimed hers, seeking, plunging with desire. Her body flamed and her knees nearly gave way. This was so much better than she remembered...He plundered and took. Delved and tasted. She, his willing victim.” This is actually a sweet romance with only a few heady kisses. I loved it. I was given a copy of this book.

Knowing her family secret would never allow her a life of a wife and mother Isabella Valentine was determined that her life have a purpose. That is one reason she insisted on following and helping her doctor brother on the battlefield which was a satisfying life until the day HE arrived in the hospital tent. Knowing he loved another and would never be hers Isabella worshiped the time they spent together until he was transferred to another fighting unit. Oh, but when he returns the feelings are stronger than ever. Nathaniel Storm has fallen in love with an angel on earth; but a war is no place to conduct a courtship. He must be content to spend as much time with her as he can until the call to battle is sounded; at least that was the plan until he was transferred for punching a superior. A year later he finds himself back in the same camp and is determined not to waste another moment in making his intentions known. The series of events that follow Nathaniel's declaration are heart wrenching and frustrating to both Isabella and Nathaniel. When their paths cross again will Nathaniel be able to put Isabella from his mind and his heart once and for all? Will Isabella finally tell her shameful secret and if so, will she survive Nathaniel's reaction? The third in Jane Charles' The Spirited Storms series (The first in the series - Christmas Spirits - can be found in the anthology The Duke's Christmas Summons and is due out on it's own on July 1,2016 while the second in the series - Ruined by a Lady - can be found in the anthology Evading the Duke) is as well written and entertaining as the first two. Even though it is part of a series Weathering Captain Storm can be read as a stand-alone but don't deprive yourself - grab them all!!
