Charlie Marder is an unlikely Congressman. Thrust into office by his family ties after his predecessor died mysteriously, Charlie is struggling to navigate the dangerous waters of 1950s Washington, DC, alongside his young wife Margaret, a zoologist with ambitions of her own. Amid the swirl of glamorous and powerful political leaders and deal makers, a mysterious fatal car accident thrusts Charlie and Margaret into an underworld of backroom deals, secret societies, and a plot that could change the course of history. When Charlie discovers a conspiracy that reaches the highest levels of governance, he has to fight not only for his principles and his newfound political career...but for his life.

Fun
5By carolleEasy fun read.Great read
5By draya5Tension keeps mounting as we roller coaster through McGiver like superhero/supervillain events, all done by our duly elected politicians . Most fascinating, and informative is the history. Jake (who is like a household item around here..we never miss his shows), gives us a purview of McCarthyism..the Red Scare and how often cutthroat behind the scenes political negotiations are. Couldn’t put it down.Great story
5By Francky393I truly couldn’t put it down once I started it.Jake Tapper should stick to being an anchor on CNN.
2By mouse janeToo many characters, too confusing. The story is also too violent. And do you really need to reference Margaret’s pregnancy every other sentence?Good tale about Washington in the 1950’s
3By tankinmdBut unfortunately, it strained credibility. The Hellfire Club by Jake Tapper
5By young gin2I really loved how this book was so well-researched. Even though it is fiction, the main events did occur. I did not realize there was a shooting in Congress, but it really happened. I have learned a lot of historic details that I did not know before. The warnings about the danger of using power to enrich oneself and take revenge on one’s enemies is clearly an age-old story, and it should be used as a cautionary tale for today. Beware the McCarthy and Cohn emulators in Washington now!CNN host's attempt at fiction....
2By JefadoovaMr. Tapper, stick to the news. Your antics on the television everyday shouldn't lead you to believe you're some facinating author. Folks, don't waste your money, the book is all based on historical happening that he twists into "his own" fiction.Great Historical fiction
5By JanMan1965Thank you Jake for offering an interesting and thoroughly entertaining read. I ate it up. The parallels and comparisons to todays challenges are important and relevant. Let’s have another book soon! The Hellfire Club
5By SPBerkoVery well written and never slows down.Disappointed
2By Terry in PhoenixJake Tapper is one of the top journalists on either newtwok or cable news, there can be no doubt about that fact. I see that ‘Hellfire Club’ has received numeoruus rave reader reviews, I cannot add my name to that list. I have been very disappointed in the book. I read a few pages daily thinking it will start to arouse my interest. Nothing yet. I’m beginning to wish I had purchased a hardcover so I could give it to a friend. It looks as though it will remain in my iBook library as being the only unread book. Meanwhile I will continue to watch Jake on CNN. No hard feelings, I know any attempt I would make to write a book would not conclude with positive results.
