Description

Oak Lawn Community High School is a small, diverse high school in the southwest suburbs of Chicago, has a full 1:1 technology program in place, where all students all receive an iPad, teachers have an iPad and a MacBook Pro, and more than 100 Apple TV devices are installed throughout the building. Technology has provided students with endless opportunities for personalized learning, and has allowed teachers to redefine teaching and learning.  Some examples include Art students applying Japanese painting techniques while using iPad devices to virtually visit a garden in Japan; students in a Mobile Apps class learn professional software design using Swift, with the course conducted in a renovated classroom space that's modeled after a Silicon Valley startup. In culinary classes, students record themselves performing various tasks and then view the videos along with teachers and classmates. In the Art Gallery, students using augmented reality, linking to iMovie projects illustrating their artistic process and personal meaning that allows observers to connect with student artists rather than passively viewing imagery. Results have also been seen beyond the classroom, with attendance at it's highest point in four years, and student failure rates have decreased dramatically.  This book will highlight all that OLCHS has been able to accomplish due to full technology integration.
