Description

Heather and Jeremiah are an unlikely love match, but their broken pieces fit together so well. Can they persevere when someone with a grudge starts playing deadly games?

It’s Heather’s thirtieth birthday, and she’s newly single. Again. With a talent for finding Mr. Right-for-Everyone-Else, it’s time to try something—or someone—new. Jeremiah certainly fits the bill. He’s different than any man she’s dated, but with her family openly hostile to him, how can it last?

Jeremiah has made a lot of mistakes in his life, and he’s spent time behind bars because of them. But eleven years ago, he was given a chance to turn his life around, and he took it without looking back. With Heather by his side, his future is looking brighter than ever… until his troubled past catches up with him.

Just as with the first four books in this series I read in Northstar Angels, this is another winner. Suzie has a way of drawing you into her stories leaving you wanting to learn more about the people living in Northstar, Montana. Looking forward to the next.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Booksprout and I am voluntarily reviewing it. This is an amazing book. I could hardly put it down. The characters were so realistic that I fell in love with them. What amazing chemistry. The plot was very smooth and flowed beautifully. I have not read any of the prior books of this series but based on the interaction of the secondary characters, their stories sound too good to miss. I was so sad to see the end of this book. I just wanted it to continue. I really hate when a great story ends. It is like saying good-bye to close friends. Highly recommend this one!

Great job with character development, the storyline was focused and not all over the place,no cliffhanger. While reading I can honestly say that I was captured and intrigued from the first word to the last. I found myself transported to the setting. If you like books with a slow burn, a little suspense and a lot of love then Last Surrender is the book for you. I am blown away by how well written this book is. I was captivated from page one and have been recommending it every chance I get. The characters are relatable and could very well remind you of people in your own life. Heather has always been the black sheep of sorts in her family, never doing what her mother “expected” of her. When she starts spending time with the town bad boy turned good, no one in her family approves and she finds herself having to choose between blood relatives and the family she never thought she’d have. Jeremiah got a second chance at life the night he was arrested 11 years ago. He made the most of it and became a man he hoped his family could be proud of. He had always carried a torch for Heather but never had the chance to make his intentions known. And then she showed up on his doorstep and everything changed. When news of his cousin’s impending release from prison reaches Jeremiah, he fears that his cousin will seek retribution against him for ratting him out. When a couple cattle from their ranch turn up dead and a familiar stranger finds himself stranded in the cold and seeks shelter at the cabin Jeremiah is staying at, he knows it’s the beginning of Cat vs. mouse.... and it’s just a matter of when the cat will pounce.

I was so happy to get to return to Northstar. I absolutely loved Jeremiah and Heather. The Hammonds and other families that come together for Jeremiah and Heather were awesome. The drama and evil of Zach lent a twist that is in all of the Northstar books. Heather was such a strong character and so glad she finally saw the sweet Jeremiah. These books draw you in and you can’t stop reading until the end. Looking forward to more.
  • Emotional Romance

Loved this story. Heather has a difficult relationship with her family and is struggling to feel accepted for herself and Jeremiah is struggling with his feelings of inadequacy. Mix that with the danger of Zach getting out of prison and his unspoken threat to bring Jeremiah down for his time in prison. Makes for an emotional romantic suspense book. Very enjoyable read as usual for a Northstar novel. Loved seeing old familiar couples and their families.

Loved it! This novel didn’t have your everyday overused characters and storyline. Don’t start reading if you will need to stop before getting to the end! A Sheriff “adopts” Jeremiah instead of putting him into jail. Joe works on the ranch and becomes part of the family. His cousin is jailed for drug trafficing vowing to get revenge on Jeremiah for helping put him in jail. Heather is part of a disfunctional boxing family who own a ranch. She finally splits from them and her domineering mother becoming friends with Jeremiah. And then it begins! I love this authors novels! Enjoy! Heather and Jeremiah’s story is on the unconventional side. But that’s not a bad thing. This is the first story I have read from Suzie O’Connell but it will not be my last! Usually, it’s the male lead who has trouble staying in a relationship, going through girlfriends until he meets “the one”. And the male usually is the self-assured, take the lead kind of guy. The female lead usually is the “less experienced” one with fewer ex-boyfriends, feels less secure about where she stands with the guy, etc. In this story, it is Jeremiah who is unsure of a relationship with Heather, given her history with ex-boyfriends. (Understandably so!). And while he is very close to his “adopted” family, Heather has an extremely strained relationship with her dysfunctional family - again, rightly so. Jeremiah is the gem here...smart, patient, caring but also astute enough to realize Heather needs to face her own issues before they can begin a serious relationship together. Adding to Heather’s family drama, someone from Jeremiah’s past bent on revenge adds more drama to this story. Several things stand out as different from a typical romance story with the most prominent one being Heather’s aggressiveness, both in her relationship with Jeremiah, family and others. The other is Jeremiah’s beta behavior...not that he’s a wimp (although we are repeatedly reminded of his physical stature being on the smaller side) but in some respects a reversal of a typical male/female role in a romance story was interesting. It is Jeremiah that soothes and heals Heather. This part of the love story is very heartwarming, as is Jeremiah’s relationship with the Hammond family. I appreciate and enjoy a strong female role. Damsels continually in distress are not my thing. A woman who can stand on her own is a beautiful thing and Heather does that. No doormat is she! The love and support Heather and Jeremiah grow in makes this a wonderful story.
