“A captivating, wintry whodunit.” —PEOPLE
"A constantly surprising series that deepens and darkens as it evolves." —Marilyn Stasio, New York Times Book Review
Kingdom of the Blind, the new Chief Inspector Gamache novel from the #1 New York Times bestselling author.
When a peculiar letter arrives inviting Armand Gamache to an abandoned farmhouse, the former head of the Sûreté du Québec discovers that a complete stranger has named him one of the executors of her will. Still on suspension, and frankly curious, Gamache accepts and soon learns that the other two executors are Myrna Landers, the bookseller from Three Pines, and a young builder.
None of them had ever met the elderly woman.
The will is so odd and includes bequests that are so wildly unlikely that Gamache and the others suspect the woman must have been delusional. But what if, Gamache begins to ask himself, she was perfectly sane?
When a body is found, the terms of the bizarre will suddenly seem less peculiar and far more menacing.
But it isn’t the only menace Gamache is facing.
The investigation into what happened six months ago—the events that led to his suspension—has dragged on, into the dead of winter. And while most of the opioids he allowed to slip through his hands, in order to bring down the cartels, have been retrieved, there is one devastating exception.
Enough narcotic to kill thousands has disappeared into inner city Montreal. With the deadly drug about to hit the streets, Gamache races for answers.
As he uses increasingly audacious, even desperate, measures to retrieve the drug, Armand Gamache begins to see his own blind spots. And the terrible things hiding there.
Reviews
I love this series
5By elkeartI have read every book in this series, somehow I missed this one and read it last. Each one has interesting cultural, historical and or geographic narratives besides great characters. I’m sad because now I’ve finished the series and feel like I will miss my friends in Three Pines. I sense a trip to Canada in my future….A wonderful series
5By ss4matI love the characters in her books and the town. I also like the way two plots are going along at the same time .My opinion as a devoted fan.
3By Lady SparhawkI gobbled up the book. I like it, of course, like a familiar. It’s not the best one, but it is a visit with people I like.Thank you
5By Bob3161944Louise, we’re so deeply sorry for your loss but so thankful you’ve shared Armand Gamache and Three Pines with us all these years. Kingdom of the Blind was a wonderful multi story story, as usual, and Three Pines, again, gave us a magical place to dream of visiting or living. While we hope there will be another Gamache story we end by saying “thank you Louise”.Mastery

5By OrchardMomAnother comforting story by a wonderful storyteller. Yes, it involves murder and deceit. It also involves family and cozy evenings by a roaring fire. Indeed a wonderful read! Thank you Louise Penny for another story that shares all the characters of Three Pines with the literary world.Kingdom of the blind, Louise Penny
1By SuarepegI was never able to download this pre-ordered book on my iPhone X. Hours of tech support eliminated all the possible hardware & software issues with my device. I was able to download another title. The Apple Store support person concluded there is a problem with this particular title & refunded by purchase price. It’s a development issue, she told me.
