This is another fab story by a terrific author. For me, it's all about the characters. Cara and Dante are the main characters. While they are initially thrown together because their families want them to marry, the chemistry was a hit from the start. Cara is an unlikely daughter of a crime family...the nice of Aunt Sophia and Uncle Tony who take her in as a child. Cara is devoted to them and her family. Her life takes an unexpected twist when Aunt Sophia makes the request. Dante Russo is a son of another crime family, one that is tainted by ugliness that typically goes along with crime families, yet he has resisted. There is honor amid Cara and Dante's "business dealings" and they have moral character despite this being a "crime" story. Their romance is sigh-worthy. and the family / friends who make up the supporting characters are real to life and believable. The story takes several twists amid tightly woven subplots involving the decades past death of Cara's mom, Dante's mother, illicit photos, and a power-hungry senator. I love, Love, LOVE the writing of Ms. Lakes. I've followed her from the "Kisses" series and anxiously await every release. This story is yet another example of how she takes characters you can see in your daily life and weaves a terrific story that can take you through the weekend. One word of caution! If you start a story by Ms. Lakes, make sure you have good excuses for why you've lost track of time and the housework / laundry isn't done! This book made a dreary and rainy weekend a pleasure!
