Description

A mother and her eleven-year-old daughter vanish from their Crossfire Creek home. The girl is vulnerable. The mother, impulsive. Tracker Aroostine Higgins is called in to find them, fast, before they’re hurt … or worse.

Aroostine assumes her Rue Jackman alias, packs up her truck, and hits the road with her dog Rufus by her side to do what she does best: Find the missing.

Unofficially, under the radar, and not necessarily entirely legally.

Meanwhile, Special Agent Patton Banks of the National Park Services Investigative Services Branch is tasked with solving the execution-style murder of a low-level criminal.

Officially, entirely legally, and as quickly as possible.

When Aroostine’s search gets tangled up with Patton’s investigation, the collision sets off a barrage … and she’s caught in the crossfire.

Don’t miss this fifth-in-series thriller from USA Today bestselling author Melissa F. Miller.

A couple times a year I will give a book 5 stars. So far, this is my only 5 star rating for 2030. The characters are vivid, the setting lush, the back story present but not enough to spoil the others books in the series. The plot was slightly weak in that I could figure out the guilty very early, but it was still enjoyable. All in all, I highly recommend this book and any other book by this author.

I found this book enjoyable and believable. Melissa F Miller does a great job of doing her homework surrounding the facts of this book. That always lends the reader to become all in with the story. She does that with Crossfire Creek. Her Aroostind Higgins series continues to be interesting to the reader and she keeps me wanting more. Thanks Melissa F Miller for keeping the entire book clean as well so I don’t have to side step questionable parts. She never does that in any of her books including Crossfire Creek. #crossfirecreek #melissafmiller #aroostinehiggins

Melissa Miller does it again! Another five star Aroostine book. I so love the characters in all of Mrs. Miller's books. They are beautifully developed, relatable and fun. This page turner had me learning new things, holding my breath as I turned the page and rooting for the strong female that is Aroostine. It created in me a desire to visit the Great Smoky Mountains, contemplating what a world it would be to live in where you didn't recognize a face and dying for the answer as to which path Aroostine chooses. Once again, I am left with a complete enjoyment of a book and an incredible desire to read the next one! This was a hard book to put down, a fast and very enjoyable read. I'll definitely be re-reading this one! I was provided an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Joy-Lynn had made a promise, it changed when she heard the cry, a few minutes later heard the cry again. Curiosity for this eleven year old was strong, reasoning she would just look and then she would get the rangers. A mother trying to take the advice and give her daughter some wings, now she is worried. She gets another promise from Joy-Lynn when she comes home. A story that haunts a person, how far does a parent go to protect a child. Ellis needs a good tracker and calls Aroostine. The meeting place with Ellis, instead turned to be a free pie, and the list from Ellis. Dealing with the Qualla and Cherokee people, a rare condition for a child. A story that tells of how far a love for a child, who had the magic to draw scenery but not faces. I found it to be strong compelling book that I wanted to read, the author did a great job. Special Agent with the ISB is offered, will Aroostine take, a woman who is allergic to rules , will that be in the next book. GivenARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.
