Why did you decide to write humor?
I’m not sure I decided to add snark to the Lucky books, specifically to Lucky’s own voice, it just happened that way. When I was a kid, my mouth always got me into trouble. Finally, I’ve found a way to harness the sarcasm for the Forces of Good—or at least in a way not to anger my grandmother. And when Lucky started talking to me, she had a strong dose of sass in her.
The Lucky O'Toole Vegas Adventure series is hard to categorize. Is that by design?
When I set out to write Wanna Get Lucky?, I knew I wanted to write a romp through Las Vegas. I had the characters and the setting but no real understanding of narrative drive. So, I threw a young woman out of a tour helicopter into the middle of the Pirate Show and let the story unfold. A bit of murder to keep the plot moving, some wisecracking and Vegas mischief to make you laugh, and some romance to keep it interesting. A bit of a mash up, but it works.

2By j_a_x_I’ve enjoyed these quick reads and I love Lucky but this series has taken a turn I just can’t forgive anymore- the writing quality has gone downhill. Every sentence is a cliche or an exaggeration and it often feels as though there is no editor or fact checker. No, I don’t expect the books to be R-E-A-L-I-T-Y and they are “throw-away reads” but they can still be decent and well written! It’s hard not to want to throw a book at the wall when you write completely fabricated things about real places- for example, the Bellagio fountains are 8 feet deep and it’s impossible for someone to chase a villain through them! Please, please get a better editor!Lucky stay in Vegas

The plot was intriguing and filled with all the characters I have grow to love and a few new ones for a bonus. 5By Review Team MemberWhen I was in upper elementary school, we would sometimes jump rope “Double Dutch”...a style that requires two long ropes to be turned by two people in opposite directions while a third person jumped the ropes. It was tricky to enter the jumping area, and once you did you had to skillfully jump double time. Lucky books remind me of that...once you enter the story, the pace is fast and tricky. I admire Lucky's bravery and insight into life, and Lucky Ce Soir does not disappoint. It is also fascinating to see her maneuver in new environs as well as learn new things about the fascinating world of wine. Bien fait, Deborah Coonts!
