Description
How do you keep fighting when you've already been claimed?
When sixteen-year-old Elise is ripped from her home and taken to the royal palace as a permanent 'guest', she thinks her life is over.
Little does she know it has only just begun…
After befriending a group of other captives, including the headstrong Will, Elise finds herself swept away to a world she never knew existed—polished, sculpted, and refined until she can hardly recognize her own reflection. She should be happy to have escaped the poverty of her former life. But she knows a dark truth.
The palace is a dream on the surface, but a nightmare underneath.
With a dwindling population, the royals have imprisoned the teenagers to marry and breed. Only seven days remain of freedom before they will be selected by a courtier and forever claimed.
Danger lurks around every corner. The only chance of escape is death.
But when the day of the claiming finally arrives…the world will never be the same.

4By BellaOfTheShireIn a world fallen back into feudal ways, Elise has no choice when royal guards come to take her to the palace. Everyone knew the nobles chose the most accomplished teenagers from throughout the realm to infuse new blood into the palace. Somehow she thought living so far in the outreaches of the kingdom would keep her safe. Now that she knows different, she begins to learn even more about the inhabitants of the palace and the other “guests” who have joined her in her journey. While the story intrigues me and I have hopes for an unexpectedly brighter ending to their stories, I am wary of continuing this series. I fear the depravities that were hinted at in this volume might be elaborated on in the next. A couple of the characters may have worked their way into my heart and their future looks terrifying as it stands in the last chapter.Worthwhile Reading

3By SilberHawkInteresting. If you liked The Hunger Games or the Divergent series you might like this. My only criticism is that there was very little in the way of action. The entire book felt like it was giving the background for the rest of the story to come in later books.Very engaging
5By nonnie55555Character developing. Kept reading and page turning. Loved the detail. KEasy!
4By darealkkGood plot, OK writing. Easy read!Captivating
5By mythreader3I read it from start to finish in one sitting. Very unique but a lot of unanswered questions.Unoriginal
2By eirasaenzc00001Breezed through this book! Quite an easy (and short) read. However…. I just could not shake the feeling of having already read this exact story. This book had so many similarities to Wither by Lauren DeStefano and The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. From similar names, to similar supporting characters, similar storyline, etc. I unfortunately read the reviews of the next few books that spoiled a major part of the series, so I might not continue reading.Eh it was alright
2By Jamie5057I liked the storyline, but it definitely needed some more fleshing out. Also I feel like the main character, we didn’t really get to know, she was just a really pretty face...like what else. I know she survived her tow but there was no spark for survival besides keeping her head down and then randomly punching a guard? This has potential but definitely needs to be edited more.Loved it!
4By vidavcI really like that this book was different than your average run of the mill stories. It’s also a page Turner keeping me reading until late in the night. I couldn’t put it down for wanting to find out what came next.Hunger Games Redux
3By Lainie9999If you loved the Hunger Games, you will probably like this just fine.Worst twist ever !!!
1By hiz@This book has the worst twist.... at first I thought the ending was fake but when u move on to book four u realize the ending really happened the prince dies !!!! Booo !!!Could not put this down.
5By Lisa DianeWhat an interesting journey this story will take you on.Surprisingly good
5By AGbookreaderI am an avid reader and I’ve been a bit disappointed with some of the reading material lately. However, this book and the second book did not disappoint. I like the idea of the storyline and it was well written. I wish each book was longer but it definitely leaves you wanting to finish the story. I am looking forward to book 3 and 4! I could also see this book series as a movie one day. I would definitely go see it!Another breath holding page turner!
5By Deeski DoubleYouWJ May has not failed to disappoint me yet! This series is incredibly creative, and I cannot wait for the rest to be released. Already pre-ordered the others in this series! A page-turner that makes you hold your breath in anticipation with every detail. I’m left needing more! Thankful for the imaginative story tellers like WJ May, and cannot wait to see what kind of future beholds characters like Elise. The price for peace
5By Unnamed ebook readerAMAZING read. I can’t say enough good things about it. Definitely finishing the seriesI liked it.
4By Blue LaneWhile I loved the characters and the story was easy to read, I wanted more. I found myself waiting for something truly awful to happen, but it never really came. I guess I’ve read too many tragedies for this book to pull at my heart strings!
