Description
She thought she needed a lover. What she found was a man who might heal her heart.
After a year of mourning, Lady Lucinda Bowery is ready to step out of the shadows of grief and reclaim the woman she once was. Hiring a gentleman courtesan with a reputation for dominance seems the perfect way to awaken her senses—and her body. She isn't looking for love, only pleasure… and perhaps a taste of freedom.
Aubrey Drake became a courtesan to support his business and provide for his ward. But years of being desired for his appearance and skill—never for himself—have left him jaded. When he's matched with Lady Bowery, he expects another cold arrangement. Instead, she challenges him from the start with her poise, passion, and refusal to be easily won.
Their connection is electric, their chemistry undeniable. But Lucinda is a woman torn between the past she grieves and the future she fears to claim. And Aubrey, for all his confidence in the bedroom, finds himself longing for something far more dangerous: her heart.
As desire deepens into something neither of them expected, Lucinda must decide whether she's ready to surrender more than just her body. Can she open herself to love again—or will fear keep her from embracing a second chance at happiness?
Reviews
Wonderful characters
5By SadistBeautyThis is one of the best series out there and this one is one of Ms Vale’s best! Aubrey is such a well written character that you can feel his plight and even identify with him. Who wouldn’t do all they could to give their family the best they could. Lucinda is wonderful and you start to wonder if she can really giver her heart to anyone. Steamy and raw pleasure throughout the story is wonderful. Can’t wait to see what happens next to the courtesans! I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.Storyline with character and heart...
5By scammy81I really enjoyed reading a story involving a man of color in Georgian Era England. Aubrey Drake did have a fortunate childhood, in that his father received a good position in a gentleman's home and that gentleman took Aubrey into his care and ensured that he received a good education and an apprenticeship in his business - which Aubrey later inherited. However, being a black man (free from birth) in a land where slavery was still legal came with discrimination and mistreatment was touching. These two each have their wounds and fight an emotional connection but where Aubrey must look to the future for his business and niece Lady Lucinda Bowery cannot let go of her late husband and fights her feelings with all her being. As this story winds together an honorable man and a woman with heart, passion, and integrity there are sweet moments, definitely sexy moments (thank you Victoria), drama and engaging dialogue and twists/turns it creates a wonderful world and a tale I recommend. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.A great love story
5By GallowaygirlyThis is a great addition to the courtesan series and I loved it. Aubrey has another contract and this one brings feelings he has not had in years to the surface and he starts to fall for Lucy. She is a widow, who has been in mourning for two years and is just starting to live again, one step at a time. There is a lot going on in this book and there is a HEA but a lot happens first. The mystery writer’s identity is still unknown to them and things may begin to escalate. This is a wonderful story, well written and entertaining. I would highly recommend this book as a great read. What A Courtesan Wants
5By avcoleman5I have been anxiously awaiting this books release and it did NOT disappoint. A beautiful erotic story of 2 people who want and need each other in a powerful way. While they inhabit two separate societies, they find common ground in their love and passion for each other. While it’s unusual to find an interracial story in this time period, they did exist and this is beautifully written. While this book does contain erotica, it is tastefully written and this does not interfere with the plot of the story. And yes—there is a plot, it is not all sex and bondage. You will fall in love with Aubrey and Lucinda. Of course, this story sizzles in true Victoria Vale style, in the way only she can do. ❤️ Do not plan on starting this book until you have a full day to devote to reading—it is that good and you will not want to put it down! I have been locked in my room since I received it, with a “do not disturb (unless you are Aubrey)” sign on my door. 😍. This book will hold your attention until the very end and the epilogue will leave you on the edge of your seat. I am now eagerly awaiting the next book in this series. I don’t do “spoilers”, but you do not want to miss out on this one! I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest review! 5 stars is not enough for this book!
