Description
A challenging aspect of small animal veterinary practice is being able to determine when the clinical signs exhibited by a dog are due to the presence of an extrahepatic portosystemic shunt. Part of the difficulty in making this determination arises because of the complex anatomy of the portal system, the fact that some of the clinical findings may occur with other conditions, and the eventual need to incorporate advanced diagnostic imaging techniques into the clinical work-up of the patient. This interactive book was developed to provide veterinary students and practitioners visual representations of three of the most commonly encountered extrahepatic portosystemic shunts, and the most recent information on breed dispositions, common clinical signs, clinicopathologic and diagnostic imaging findings, and appropriate methods of treatment.
