When an intriguing woman with a bewildering tale and a frog side-kick appears, General John Halliwell, Commander of the Project Enterprise Earth Expedition, is intrigued enough to lend an ear. The fact that she's easy on his eyes, close to his own age, and not under his command, is a plus. His new acquaintance, Naxe, has lived a life cloaked in secrecy and burdened with the responsibility of providing for her people. Freedom, paradoxically, feels farther away after the end of the war.
