Madly in love, or just pretending?

When archaeologist adventurer Ethan Burnell arranges a fake engagement to survive the ordeal of his sister's Christmas house party, feisty bluestocking Cornelia is not the pliable would-be-bride he had in mind.

With her name mired in scandal, Cornelia Mortmain's marriage prospects are nil.
Burnell is exactly the sort of 'dangerous man' she's sworn off, and posing as his fiancée can only spell trouble.
Or, make her so notorious she'll become irresistible.

Together, they stumble on Studborne Abbey's hidden crypt, and something even more disturbing!

Could they be falling in love for real?

This is a fun read that is entertaining and at the same time can pull at your heart strings. A woman who endured a loveless marriage and a man who swore to never marry find themselves in a faux engagement that does not turn out the way it was planned. There is a lot going on in this story that makes for a great read, especially when there is a HEA. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and are voluntarily leaving a review.

She is a widow drenched in scandal, none of it her making. He is an explorer and archeologist from Texas. She is interested in ancient history and his work in South America. In this wonderfully fun and entertaining story Ethan Burnell and Cornelia Mortmain find their greatest adventure would take place at a Christmas house party. Their fake engagement (for the usual reasons) is going well except the crazy Texan goes over the top several times when describing their relationship. Truth is they are attracted to each other, but can’t quite take the step to the real thing until… The story is engaging and the characters unbelievably charming. Joining Ethan and Cornelia in their holiday romp are a cast of delightful friends and family. The Everly sisters, Cornelia’s aunts are hilarious flirts and matchmakers. Lady Pippsbury’s self-concocted vocabulary is laugh-out-loud funny. The organized chaos of the party is the perfect setting for Ethan and Cornelia to begin their journey to happy ever after. Lovely story, charming characters, a great read. I received an ARC of this book via BookSprout. My review is voluntary.

This is the fourth story I have read in this series and as with all the other stories I have thoroughly enjoyed every one of them. I love the way the characters interact with each other and the antics that they get into, even little Minnie. I can’t wait to read the next book because I think it may answer some questions from this one?? I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

What a wonderful story with a yummy hero. Ethan is ‘tall, lean and darkly handsome’, and a renowned wealthy adventurer. The heroine, Cornelia, is a beautiful, unassuming, intelligent woman who has been treated carelessly by those who should have loved and protected her. Add a Christmastime house party; two eccentric aunts; various conniving matrons; a few available daughters; a pregnant hostess; a male guest of questionable values and a silly dog, and you’ve got a story that will captivate and delight. This well written tale will spark your interest, encourage your curiosity and have you rooting for Ethan and Cornelia’s happy ending. This is another wonderful story written by one of my favorite authors. The characters are strong individuals whose independence is admirable, but sometimes one has to let go of preconceived notions and bitterness in order to allow new spiritual and emotional growth. Ethan Burnell is a Texan who is well known among the scholars of archaeology as an adventurer and procurer of artifacts from the ancient ruins of South America. Mrs. Cornelia Mortmain is a widow who is “allowed” to work in the basement of the building, cataloguing broken piece of urns, but her interest lies within an area where only the curators are allowed, the Palekmul gallery. When Cornelia sneaks into the forbidden gallery, she stumbles upon a man who can only be a thief! What follows is a humorous encounter with an old childhood friend, a invitation to a lecture, and an invitation to a house party. However, there is another invitation of sorts…..a fake engagement. Expect some excitement, disappointment, and broken hearts in this story. It is a riveting tale that will leave you happy.
