The politics and lgbt drops were used it seemed to check a box. They did not progress the story or had to relevance.Started off well

5By LadyMReddThere are a ton of funny “chic lit” romances out there, especially those based on the “girl falls in love with royalty, but has no idea he’s royal” trope. I read this literally on a beach on vacation and just thought it’d be a fun, frothy beach read. I was pleasantly surprised to find it more than that. The heroine was smart and issue-oriented (without the book being preachy). The author managed to get her to have a romance without sacrificing who she is. In fact, she was able to find out more about herself through her relationship. Very satisfying beach read that’s definitely a cut above the others in the genre.Great book!
