Description

Winner of both the Hugo and Nebula Awards, the powerful, classic story about a man who receives an operation that turns him into a genius...and introduces him to heartache.

Charlie Gordon is about to embark upon an unprecedented journey. Born with an unusually low IQ, he has been chosen as the perfect subject for an experimental surgery that researchers hope will increase his intelligence-a procedure that has already been highly successful when tested on a lab mouse named Algernon.

As the treatment takes effect, Charlie's intelligence expands until it surpasses that of the doctors who engineered his metamorphosis. The experiment appears to be a scientific breakthrough of paramount importance, until Algernon suddenly deteriorates. Will the same happen to Charlie?

This book was about a guy who was stupid who got a medical procedure to become smart. As he become smarter, he became disillusioned by the way people were treating him. Later, he became dumb again because the effects of the treatment wore off. He slowly became stupider and stupider until he couldn’t take care of himself. I think he died early because the mouse died early. It was very tragic. I liked that this book was easy to follow with few characters.

I had to read this book for English class. I’m so glad I did. This book is incredible. There are things in it that completely changed my perspective. It’s so saddening to see how Charlie slowly loses his intelligence and begins to lose the understanding he once had, but I love how the author had the interesting take on how self centered Charlie was when he was a genius and how genuine he was when he was “dumb”. Really incredible book.

I’ve never read this before, and knew I needed to when I’ve heard people talk about it over the years. This book is a classic, for good reason. It will leave you invested, emotional, and possibly even crying. It did for me. I loved the book so much, I immediately had to find the movie and watch it. This book really puts certain things into perspective. You won’t regret reading it. It is extremely well written and from an interesting journal point of view.
