4By zaamrodWhat I like most about Sebastian St. Cyr is that he’s not a traditional detective like Sherlock Holmes. He’s not ordinary...not by any means...but he uses the physical gifts God gave him (and which exist in many of Welsh descent) to tirelessly pursue justice and truth. In this first installment of a 16-book series, Sebastian must begin by clearing his own name after being accused of a truly horrific murder. The novel is longer than it needed, as Sebastian interviews the same main suspects repeatedly, and I felt a bit cheated that the real murdered doesn’t really appear much throughout the narrative (sorry), but overall I loved the writing, the pacing, and the character, and recommend this to all those who, like me, enjoy if not devour Victorian mysteries.If you like this genre you’ll love this book!

5By jannieliveThis my second St. Cyr novel. Harris writes very well, historical details for the 1800s are accurate, and the dialect is very well done. I had to look up several interesting terms, which were new to me. My first book was from later in the series. I picked it from my (real, not virtual) bookshelf recently and decided to see if this series was available. Delightfully, it is. If you like historical mysteries, with an extremely well-done protagonist, this book and it's subsequent ones are for you. The Author's note regarding Bithil Syndrome is icing on the cake as kudos for her research.
