Cassie Simon is a struggling artist living in New York City. When she receives a call from a magistrate in Sweetwater, TN, telling her she has inherited sixty acres of land from her grandfather, whom she never knew, she takes it as a sign: it’s time for a change. She moves into the house where her mother, Ellen, was born—and where she died tragically when Cassie was three.
From the moment she arrives in Sweetwater, Cassie is overwhelmed by the indelible mark her mother’s memory had left behind. As she delves into the thicket of mystery that surrounds her mother’s death, Cassie begins to understand the desperate measures the human heart is capable of.

3By AshCimmI expected a better ending. Things built and slowly fizzled.Great Story, Terrible Ending
3By SaltedCarolynI really enjoyed reading this book until the end. The end was terrible. She'd created such wonderful characters and then phoned in the ending. I doubt I'll read any other of her books because now I'm just unsatisfied. Shame, I did really like her characters.Very good book, but....
3By MamaofBenandChrisThis book was well written, had suspense, drama, and a message. The author left you asking questions. Not good. The problem was the ending or lack thereof.Sweet Water
5By Slhrn101I loved this book. Clyde and Cassie are 2 of the most interesting characters I've ever read. It was not one of the stories that you knew what was going to happen before it did. Great Job!Ho hum
2By Jaqui1019I was really into the story and enjoying it and then it just ended. I wanted to read more. I would read a sequel to the story if she wrote one. But if that was the ending, I'm disappointed.Sweet Water
4By Carole358I really enjoyed reading Sweet Water by Christina Baker Cline. I liked the way the story was told by two of the main characters. The story line evolved nicely but I was a little surprised at how suddenly the novel ended. I really wasn't ready for the story to end and wanted to read more although it ended the way it should have. I will definitely read more of Christina Kline's books. Thanks for the opportunity to read and review it.Loved everything but the end
3By Erinashley7548I loved reading this book, but the ending was a big let down. It felt like the author rushed the ending. I did like how the story was told through two different perspectives. I haven't read many books like it. I just wish the ending was different.Sweet Water
2By TxgeorgiaConfusing to read Would not recommend.Captivating
5By SueT-NJIt was like reading 2 books at the same time. Such a captivating story! Once I started reading it was hard to put it down!Sweet water
1By robotgumbyBoring,confusing,and the ending was horrible.Hauntingly seductive
5By Maggie3260Beautifully written, the writer holds the suspense through to the last page. Skillful use of narrative and thoughts twist into a well braided plot. The reader can figuratively become a participant of a tale that many young girls grew up and through. Secrets poison.Good, but not Great
3By Mac_ChickThis was a good read. I liked the way the story verse was told in alternating voices between Clyde, the grandmother, and Cassie. I must confess that most of the characters were not that likable and I found much of the book depressing. The way these people bicker and fight … if they were my family I’d run. Fast and far. The ending was abrupt and kind of surprising given how much Cassie wanted to learn the truth. The whole romance with the cousin I felt was kind of tossed in there which really did not add to the book in my opinion. A good book, but not one that I would recommend to all my friends to read.Thoroughly disappointing climax to a very interesting story
3By SuzanneBuEnjoyed reading this book but was expecting more than the disappointing ending that, in my option, leaves the reader hanging. The story appears unfinished.....the same way I felt after reading another of Kline's books. Terrible let down! I was expecting conversations to take place between Cassie and Clyde, but they never materialize; instead, the book just abruptly ends. Disappointing!
