Description

The practical, comforting, honest, and hilarious bestseller for moms-to-be, with more than one and a half million copies in print!

Your doctor gives you medical advice. Your mother buys you baby clothes. But who can give you the real skinny when you’re pregnant?

Your girlfriends, of course—at least, the ones who’ve been through the exhilaration and exhaustion, the agony and ecstasy of pregnancy. Four-time delivery room veteran Vicki Iovine talks to you the way only a best friend can—in the book that will go the whole nine months for every mother-to-be. In this revised and updated edition, get the lowdown on all those little things that are too strange or embarrassing to ask, practical tips, and hilarious takes on everything pregnant.

What really happens to your body—from morning sickness and gas to eating everything in sight—and what it’s like to go from being a babe to having one.

The Many Moods of Pregnancy—why you’re so irritable/distracted/tired/lightheaded (or at least more than usual).

Staying Stylish—You may be pregnant, but you can still be the fashionista you’ve always been (or at least you don’t have to look like a walking beachball)—wearing the hippest designers and proudly showing off your bump.

Pregnancy is Down To a Science—from in vitro fertilization to scheduled c-sections, there are so many options, alternatives, and scientific tests to take that being pregnant can be downright confusing!

And much more! For a reassuring voice or just a few good belly laughs, turn to this straight-talking guide on what to really expect when you’re expecting.

This book is worthless. It’s the most negative nonfactual information I’ve read. Save your money.

The first baby book I read after finding out I was pregnant. Light hearted humorous way of giving you crucial real details of pregnancy. Perfect to ease you into the pregnancy world. Loved it!

This is just as great as her other two books surviving the first year and surviving the toddler years! But be warned if you're reading it in your third trimester because she'll have you laughing until you P your pants
  • Relevant in the 90's?

Though times the author was friendly and nice and honest, sometimes even funny, other times she was just plain judgemental, rude and uneducated. This book is less "girlfriend" and more "well-meaning but older out-of-touch aunt" - poor writing and editing aside.

I am going I be a first time mom. This book is literally like talking to one of your close friends, and having me share every detail that you yourself might be too afraid to ask. Humor makes it seem more manageable :)

This book taught me a lesson about downloading the sample first! I was only a few pages into the foreword before I started feeling like the attitude of this author was not for me. I decided to push through it because I paid for it. It upset me so much that I literally deleted it off my iPhone at about page 100 so that I could never open it again!!! She talks about mostly negative and miserable aspects of pregnancy which I don't like but figured hey, at least she's being honest. What prompted me to delete the book was when she said she waits until her husband is bonding with their 4th, unplanned pregnancy to throw in his face that he didn't want the baby when she found out she was pregnant again!!! What kind of mother says that! I can tell you...a horrible one! She says that in front of the baby to her husband and one day, the child will understand what she's saying and feel horrible about itself!!!!! I'm really furious that a woman would even include such a hideous action in a book. There are lots of MUCH better books out there than this. Tia Mowry wrote a really good and relatable book that is much more worth the time and money.

This book is so awesome. I cannot thank her enough! This is my first baby and I feel more prepared because of this book. It's like your best friend taking to you. Nothing held back. And there is a sense of humor to help you through the scary stuff.
  • Worst book ever!

After reading about 100 pages I didn't want to be pregnant anymore. The only people who like this book is women who don't care if they get fat and gross while pregnant. This book gives them the ok to look awful and eat what ever they want! BAD BOOK! Don't buy it! Also, I want my money back!
