Description

From New York Times bestseller and Hugo Award-winner John Scalzi, a wild-and-woolly caper novel of interstellar diplomacy

A human diplomat creates an interstellar incident when he kills an alien diplomat in a most . . . unusual . . . way. To avoid war, Earth's government must find an equally unusual object: a type of sheep ("The Android's Dream"), used in the alien race's coronation ceremony.

To find the sheep, the government turns to Harry Creek, ex-cop, war hero and hacker extraordinare, who, with the help of a childhood friend turned artificial intelligence, scours the earth looking for the rare creature.
But there are others with plans for the sheep as well. Mercenaries employed by the military. Adherents of a secret religion based on the writings of a 21st century SF author. And alien races, eager to start a revolution on their home world and a war on Earth.

To keep our planet from being enslaved, Harry will have to pull off a grand diplomatic coup, a gambit that will take him from the halls of power to the lava-strewn battlefields of alien worlds. There's only one chance to get it right, to save the life of the sheep—and to protect the future of humanity.

Enjoyed this book as I do all of Scalzi’s work. But there had to be 30+ typos or missing words. Believe me, I am not counting or looking for them. Baffling.
  • Out of all of Johns books this is the best one yet!

I can imagine that when he wrote this book, he had an excellent time in coming up with all the twists and turns to right where you least expected it to. All while keeping it light, funny and entertaining for the whole book. True hero’s don’t want to be hero’s. Good Job John with this book. I don’t know if you could ever do a sequel to this one off but gosh darn it you did great.

Guy meets girl and in the process must save the plant. An under-rated judge eventually goes golfing. Another amusing Scalzi masterpiece!

I loved this book. Great story with fantastic legal maneuvering, man eating aliens, sheep cults, and lizards that are personally offended by farts! Thank you Mr Scalzi.
  • Weird, but great

The casual reader will probably enjoy this, but the best reader for this book is a sci-fi reader with a Terry Pratchett/Douglas Adams sense of humor. If you fall anywhere near those categories, you will love this book, then turn around and read it again.
  • Great book - better than Old Man's War

Really enjoyed reading his Old Man's War series and bought this one from the iBooks store. Loved it - were clever and fun turns, fast pace and a very entertaining read. Recommend it.

This started out on a very funny if somewhat juvenile premise, but quickly became exciting, fascinating, and kept me chuckling right up til the end. I suppose you could call this a "guy" book for the humor and action scenes, and that works for me. Enjoy!
