Description

The book that will “blow you away”** has a dazzling new look in paperback!

Saba has spent her whole life in Silverlake, a dried-up wasteland ravaged by constant sandstorms. The Wrecker civilization has long been destroyed, leaving only landfills for Saba and her family to scavenge from. That's fine by her, as long as her beloved twin brother Lugh is around. But when four cloaked horsemen capture Lugh, Saba's world is shattered, and she embarks on a quest to get him back.

Suddenly thrown into the lawless, ugly reality of the outside world, Saba discovers she is a fierce fighter, an unbeatable survivor, and a cunning opponent. Teamed up with a handsome daredevil named Jack and a gang of girl revolutionaries called the Free Hawks, Saba’s unrelenting search for Lugh stages a showdown that will change the course of her own civilization.

Blood Red Road has a searing pace, a poetic writing style, and an epic love story—making Moira Young is one of the most exciting new voices in teen fiction.

So when I first picked up the book at my library it really threw me through a loop, the writing style is so unique and it made me feel like I was actually witnessing the main character Saba actually going through this land, the emotional response that this book earned from me was intense satisfaction, even though it was completely bizarre, this book is a must read for anyone that is a fan of dystopian novels (obviously I myself am a massive fan of dystopian societies and worlds) it was only slightly reminiscent of hunger games and only during a certain part of the book, the rest feels like an fantasy quest from a Tolkien novel but set in a gunslinging, cage fighting, murderous world that would sooner let you drown in sand than let you walk through a forest, Moira young has changed how I view young adult novels

The grammar and the 'slang' got old on the 4th page.... so sad. It looked like a good read.

being a hunger games fanatic, I fell head over heels for this book. it takes awhile to get used to the writing style, considering some words aren't spelt properly an quotation marks aren't used, but I think that's what made it interesting, the plot was amazing and kept me on the edge of my seat for more; Saba is a fearless leader and an amazing warrior. everything about her and the other characters are amazing. I am proud to say I finished this book in a day. I loved it <3

I'll start off by saying that Blood Red Road is one of my favorite books of all time. I'm pretty sure that it even beat out the Hunger Games...which I thought would be nearly impossible in the first place. Saba's character is rough, tough, and as fiery as any character could get. Everything about that book I loved, from the language Saba uses to the characters themselves. Dust Lands in all honesty was kind of a disappointment to me. Saba does something that ruined the book for me towards the end, and it just seemed so out of character for her. Others might disagree, but that I was my opinion of it. It was rather sad and depressing compared to the first book, because Saba makes a lot of mistakes and her relationship with Lugh is being tried throughout the entire book. Also magic/spiritual happenings were dealt with in the book, and I thought of it as more of a science fiction rather than a fantasy, so it kind of threw me off a bit. Over all, if you loved Blood Red Road as much as I did, I would not read this book, and instead make up my own ending. This doesn't mean I won't be buying the next book, though! So if you were really set on buying this book- go for it. I finished it in 1 day. It's good and fast-paced, I just did not like some of the choices that Saba's character made, and I didn't really like how magic/spirituality was introduced because I thought this was more of a science fiction story.
  • So many grammar issues!!!!!!

Okay. I'm one of those people who constantly corrects grammatical errors. For me to sit through and read this book would be torture. I just finished the sample of the book, and it's hard for me to enjoy with all those issues. I'm giving the book a three because, if the grammar and spelling was correct, it probably would have been a great read.

This book is amazing. I literally didn't put it down until I finished it. The book has a very close variation to the hunger games ( which by the is also an AMAZING book ) with Saba and her determination, it really reminded me of katness and how she is also determined to stay alive. The plot line for the book was so well thought out and I loved every second of it. Although at first I was find of confused cause the whole book has like 50 grammar and punctuation problems on every page, but you get used to it. Over all it was an awesome book and a must read.

I loved the book, saying it was like The Hunger Games in various amount of ways. Saba the herione reminded me of katniss everdeen in lots of aspects. Saba would do anything in her power to save her twin brother lugh, and did along the way met a love interest jack and a rebellious girl group. Action packed from start to finish. Cant wait for a next one!!!

This book is SOOOOO GOOOD!!!!!! It's similar to the Hunger Games Series which I hold (this is gonna sound kinda weird) near and dear to me. The plot is well thought-out and I absolutely LOVE the characters!!!!! Saba is an amazing heroine which I think is A LOT like Katniss Everdeen though a little more....violent I would say. I'm not saying Saba is bloodthirsty, but she's willing to do anything if it means she's one step closer to finding her brother, Lugh. Even if that means hurting, or even killing someone. Her brother, Lugh, is very similar in look and persona to Peeta Mellark and he is a likeable character with a big heart. Her little sister, Emmi, is very much like Primrose Everdeen, with her strong heart and Saba cares for very much. Jack, Saba's "love interest" is my absolute FAVORITE character!!!!!! I would say he is most like Gale Hawthorne from the Hunger Games series, but his personality is a lot like Peeta Mellark also. He's tall, dark, and handsome. The Free Hawks are a great addition to the book and they manage to become Saba's friends (which is not an easy thing to do) and help her out. As for the writing style, I loved it. It was a little hard to get used to, with Saba's incorrect grammar and punctuation, but after about 20 pages I didn't notice it at all. This book is: Amazing. Perfect. Great read. GET IT.
