Description

From the new afterword by the author:

Humanity has had a long fascination with blood sacrifice. In fact, it has been by no means uncommon for a child to be born into this world only to be patiently and lovingly reared by religious maniacs, who believe that the best way to keep the sun on its course or to ensure a rich harvest is to lead him by tender hand into a field or to a mountaintop and bury, butcher, or burn him alive as offering to an invisible God. The notion that Jesus Christ died for our sins and that his death constitutes a successful propitiation of a “loving” God is a direct and undisguised inheritance of the superstitious bloodletting that has plagued bewildered people throughout history. . .

Thank you for articulating what I am unable to. I believe that I see what you see and am trying not to panic. Blind and dangerous unreasonableness.

Harris, with usual clarity and lucidity, lays out a brilliant argument against Christianity, and ultimately organized religion in general.

The first to speak seems right till the second presents his case. I dared to read this, I dare you to read Ravi's response as openly!

Clarity. How many atheist riots are there? Exactly. Mr Harris doesn't approach this as "I told you so", but rather as mature, considered logic- which sadly remains absent in much of our society. What irks me is that I'm willing to listen to someone's religious beliefs in the spirit of an open mind, but can never expect the same consideration when offering rebuttals to those beliefs. When did we stop having intelligent discourse?

In the 21st century, this short but enlightening writeup should be added as an introduction chapter to the bible, the koran and other fantasy literature.

Amazing!!! This book was Great! growing up in a christian home this book really got me thinking and studying what truth really is. This book took my once small faith to a whole new level. Points made are surprisingly simple, and easily refutable. Great when read with Dr. Ravi Zacharias' (End of Reason).
