LOCUS AWARD WINNER • Multiple-award-winning science fiction master Dan Simmons concludes the renowned Hyperion Cantos with this magnificent “full-blooded action novel” (The New York Times Book Review).
“An enormously satisfying conclusion to one of the major works of modern science fiction.”—Locus
The time of reckoning has arrived. As a final genocidal Crusade threatens to enslave humanity forever, a new messiah has come of age. She is Aenea and she has undergone a strange apprenticeship to those known as the Others. Now her protector, Raul Endymion, one-time shepherd and convicted murderer, must help her deliver her startling message to her growing army of disciples.
But first they must embark on a final spectacular mission to discover the underlying meaning of the universe itself. They have been followed on their journey by the mysterious Shrike—monster, angel, killing machine—who is about to reveal the long-held secret of its origin and purpose. And on the planet of Hyperion, where the story first began, the final revelation will be delivered—an apocalyptic message that unlocks the secrets of existence and the fate of humankind in the galaxy.
Reviews
Good for passing time, but extremely boring.
2By morgoth_lordThis author seems to have run out of good ideas for the narrative by this book. It felt like he filled the pages with overly descriptive “fluff”, just to make a 100 pages story into a 1000 pages book. On top of that, the author seems to have been so uninspired that the more the book progresses, the more boring and dreadful the narrative becomes, culminating in an utterly uninspired and disappointing ending (not counting the extremely cringeworthy romance story he tries to weave into the narrative…). I’m the end, he turned the half decent premise he had for the story at the beginning of the series, killed it halfway through the second book, and proceeded to beat that dead horse all the way through the third book…Utter Garbage
1By ehall3I loved Hyperion, I enjoyed the resolution that Hyperion falls gave but this, this was a waste. Should never have been written. Just stop with Hyperion Falls or better yet just read Hyperion. All of the constant unraveling and destruction of literally everything from the two Hyperion books in this is so frustrating to read. Also the fact that the “hero” in this one is absolutely useless and constantly screwing up, almost dying is exhausting. Nothing unique to explore here, and it results in some mamby pamby lame utopia in the end because everybody drank some girls blood.Four and a half star finale to a five star series
5By global lionMost great works of science fiction end up being great works of philosophy, as well. The Hyperion Cantos series is no exception, with the fourth and final book punctuating its universal lesson of tolerance and understanding. The final book loses half a star because too much of it is slowed in places by Dickensian description.Great series
5By rangertauNot the best book of the series but still great. Re-read it again after twenty years and loved it. One of the few books that made me sad when I finished it, for the journey with all the characters was over.Absolutely Phenomenal
5By jimmyb1My favorite sci-fi series. Love it.Wow
5By Curran's MusicI’ve literally never written a review for anything. These books were so good I felt so compelled. What an epic four book journey. These have been some of my favorite Sci-Fi tales of all time. Covering all aspects of technology and life, I simply couldn’t stop reading. I highly recommended all of them.Hyperion, Endymion, Genius.
5By AlmostClassyRobThe Rise of Endymion is one of the most beautiful love stories I have ever read. And the entire Hyperion Cantos is the best sci fi book out there! What a Wonderful read, amazing characters and a beautiful world he has crafted here. Dan Simmons has done it right. What a FANTASTIC Quadrilogy!
5By ctx1502From a beginning that teased of a cryptic demon-driven Canterbury Tales, to a star-crossed lovers space-time immemorial storyline, through an alien landscape with African Queen river-ventures, and crossing the finale with fatalistic quantum true love story... This is an amazing tribute to the true creative force that gives meaning to the genre of science fiction....
5By Iceberg01I am left speechless... Somehow this is more than just a novel.Wonderful
5By RPutt33What a wonderful series of books. I am truly saddened that my time with them is over! The characters literally became a part of my days, and my dreams....a series that will stretch and transform one's understanding of what our future may someday be. An absolute must-read!Worst of the four Hyperion Books
2By danrogyHonestly, this book shouldn't have existed. 100 pages should've been chopped out & attached to the previous book. I know Mr. Simmons writes books for money, but there's SO MUCH boring filler in this book. Diid we really need dozens of pages describing architecture and clouds and commuting ? I ha to force myself to finish it. It did have quite a satisfying endingRise of Endymion
5By McotatiProbably the finest series I have read in years. The only problem is, it had to end. If you love a good story loaded with life changing vision that will challenge what you thought you knew about religion, philosophy, history and more importantly spirituality Start with Hyperion and finish here 4 books of the meaning of Love.Rise of Endymion
