Description
The classic ghost story from the author of The Mist in the Mirror: a chilling tale about a menacing spectre haunting a small English town.
Arthur Kipps is an up-and-coming London solicitor who is sent to Crythin Gifford—a faraway town in the windswept salt marshes beyond Nine Lives Causeway—to attend the funeral and settle the affairs of a client, Mrs. Alice Drablow of Eel Marsh House. Mrs. Drablow’s house stands at the end of the causeway, wreathed in fog and mystery, but Kipps is unaware of the tragic secrets that lie hidden behind its sheltered windows. The routine business trip he anticipated quickly takes a horrifying turn when he finds himself haunted by a series of mysterious sounds and images—a rocking chair in a deserted nursery, the eerie sound of a pony and trap, a child’s scream in the fog, and, most terrifying of all, a ghostly woman dressed all in black. Psychologically terrifying and deliciously eerie, The Woman in Black is a remarkable thriller of the first rate.
The basis for the major motion picture starring Daniel Radcliffe.

4By M sofia PDReally good writing! A quick reading but worth it! Different from the film doesn't mean a bad thing.Quick read
3By Tooth scraperI never knew this book existed until I saw the movie, so I quickly wanted to find the book. I did, and somewhat disappointed. The movie was much better, the read was actually a little boring until the last chapter. It is a must read if you enjoyed the movie, but don't expect the same excitement.Movie is so much better...
2By msalazar5914The supposedly scary parts of the book aren't even scary. And the plot is incredibly slow. It is rare that a movie is better than the book, but I thought the movie version was 10x better than this book.Meh
3By ZombieBunny29The book is very short, and predictable. Just as the story is really starting to pick up, it ends. The actual writing is good, making for a creepy and interesting story, but it's much too short, making it very easy to guess the ending. Not worth $9.99, wait till it goes on sale.Wonderful Movie… let's see the book
5By NegrushkaI will begin reading this delicious horror comedy…. I really love the movie, I hope it was available in iTunes very soon!!!!!!Great Read!

1By jlc33084I purchased this book on the recommendation of a friend. I also wanted to read the book before I saw the movie. As far as horror/ghost stories go, this is very weak. I'm honestly surprised it has stood the test of time. It's more of a short story really...it just lacks substance. I regret making the purchase and would not recommend this book to anyone, especially at this price.Quick and creepy!
4By Marie121388I saw the theater production when I was in London in 2007, and so I was pretty caught off guard by how creeped out I was by the last few chapters, despite the fact I already knew the plot! This was a fun, quick, creepy read. I definitely recommend it!A classic ghost story
5By austinwstoneBlends elements of horror and tragedy into a thrilling tale. This novel continues to stand the test of time.Suspenseful, a Tragedy
4By Ana GrayI read this book in 2 days. Fairly short read; the suspense, and the descriptive words kept me turning the page. I was so enveloped that at one point I felt my own heart racing. A "modern day" tragedy- I recommend this book!
