I am so sad the saga is over. I am a huge J. R.R Tolkien fan, this is not Tolkien, but I enjoyed it just as much. I know these characters better than The Lord of the Rings characters, and there were times where I could see almost as well the landscape and world the author creates (Like in the lost city of Persepliquis). In other words, I feels that Tolkien wrote the works on a “global” scale and took specific care to keep you in that world. I think Sullivan’s gift is that he writes for the characters and the relationships and interpersonal struggles. There is more of a “I think I know this guy” familiarity to Sullivan’s characters - which I love.

I just now finished this series, and though I’ve never written a review on a book before, I had to on this one. The trilogy was capped off absolutely perfectly by this final book. From the moment I started this one I could not put it down. There will be grief, failure, and sadness in this book, but this is seriously an AMAZING finish to what started as Theft of Swords. Make sure you read the first two, then read this one, and if you like fantasy you will not forget these books. Way to go Michael Sullivan!

Michael J. Sullivan really knows how to write a gripping story. This series is a must read and is among my favorites. I missed a lot of sleep due to being caught up in the action. I went from one book into the next. Michael J. Sullivan is now on my must buy list for authors.

Michael Sullivan has a unique ability to write exactly what he wants the reader to know in such a masterful way that is easy to read without being too simple. He is able to clearly paint the scenes with just enough information, allowing the reader to use their imagination while thoroughly enjoying the story without distractions; Not too much information, not too little. The characters are beautifully presented, each with their own unique personalities, quirks, flaws, goals, mannerisms, and they are always true to who they are. Each character is believable from start to finish. The plot is clearly well-developed and consistent throughout the entire book. The flow of the story is perfect page to page and definitely keeps the reader wanting to turn the page and not set down the book until it's finished.

I loved this book! The characters were deep, believable, and unforgettable. After reading Theft of Swords, Rise of Empire, and this book, I truly felt like I personally knew the characters. I was happy with the way the story ended (there are a great deal of surprises to be had). This is a great read by a great author!

Particularly in the fantasy genre, there is not really a whole lot of humor integrated into the story. Multiple times I found myself laughing out loud. Integrate that humor with a truly epic plot, and you have an excellent book to read. The characters are very well developed and I am sad to see them go. I was very satisfied with the way the series wrapped up however. I hope to see more material from this author.

His book is what the fantasy world has been missing, a fun yet simple tale of some great heroes. With too many authors trying too hard to reinvent a genre Sullivan tells a tale without being contrived or overly simplified. The Riyria series has been refreshing and entertaining from the beginning and this reader hopes to continue to read many more exciting stories that are more reminiscent of role playing evenings with friends than some overly winded epic that needs a glossary.
