Description

A monster at the bottom of a hill eats all of the garbage generated by the town on top of the hill. This provides two important benefits: The monster is happy with plenty to eat and the town stays nice and clean. Unfortunately, as the town grows, so does the amount of garbage the monster must consume. He gets bigger - and he starts burping. This is, as you can probably guess, a bit unsightly and stinky. In the end, the kids figure out how to solve the problem - despite the nasty mayor's doubts and objections.

Tom Watson's books for kids are gaining a wide and appreciative audience. His traditional picture books are written in a rhythmic rhyming style and illustrated with vivid cut-paper pictures. His Stick Dog adventures are longer form and marked by a distinct narrative voice, simple pastel pictures and an offbeat (some would say downright strange) sense of humor. His books have consistently ranked very high on the children's free and paid lists on iBooks.

Teaches kids about eating too much and recycling. It also shows compassion for the monster's needs.

This is my first iBook! I look forward to reading it with my Kindergarten class. It will work in to our recycle and composting lessons perfectly. I will probably read it more than one time for recycling reminders. This story could possibly fit in to healthy eating lessons as well!...filling yourself up with the foods you can use instead of the junk, that tends to 'go out the back end'.

As an adult I enjoy this book, my son loves it too. We have been rereading this book now for a few years. I have to say this has become one of my favorite modern day childrenโ€™s books.

My 6 year old says "it's very good & please read it again"! Cute story for teaching kids to recycle & not be wasteful. Also teaches kindness. Not happy however how they disrespect the elder/leadership, that could have been written with more respect. Over all though it was great for kids.
