Description

Get to know the detective in charge of Copenhagen's coldest cases in the first electrifying Department Q mystery from New York Times bestselling author Jussi Adler-Olsen.

Carl Mørck used to be one of Denmark’s best homicide detectives. Then a hail of bullets destroyed the lives of two fellow cops, and Carl—who didn’t draw his weapon—blames himself. So a promotion is the last thing he expects. But Department Q is a department of one, and Carl’s got only a stack of cold cases for company. His colleagues snicker, but Carl may have the last laugh, because one file keeps nagging at him: a liberal politician vanished five years earlier and is presumed dead. But she isn’t dead...yet.

Darkly humorous, propulsive, and atmospheric, The Keeper of Lost Causes introduces American readers to the mega-bestselling series fast becoming an international sensation.

Not bad if you’re looking for a Nordic police procedural. I found the social commentary a bit forced (but maybe that’s because I’m not familiar with Danish politics). Otherwise, it was good beach reading.

Love all of the Dept Q stories - great story lines, character, and that touch of human contact and humor - can't out the book down once you get started. I will put Jussi right up there with Jo Nesbo .

Great fun. Maybe a little slow at first but it really builds momentum. Am looking forward to reading more by this author. It is a disservice to compare the author to Stieg Larsson. Although I'm also a fan of Larsson this writer is quite different. This book is less Scandi-noir & violent and Adler-Olsen invests his main characters with humor. The plotting is excellent and you don't have to ignore some of the preposterousness of the "tattoo" books. I couldn't help but think what a great movie "Keeper" would make. Then I read on IMDB that such a movie exists. Hurry up Netflix get it in your system!

The book started off a little slow but was captivating once the story got going. The love of siblings is unlike any other love.

From beginning to end I could not put this book down. The story line is great and the characters are very entertaining. I've been looking for a good thriller since reading the millennium trilogy over a year ago and finally I found one. Can't wait to read the next book.

This book started out agonizingly slow. Once it got going it was terrific. Very good police procedural with a lot of personal touches. Great suspenseful ending, that I couldn't read fast enough!

Great story that takes you to the dark side of people's minds. edgy characters with a less than perfect detective and his less than qualified assistant.
