Description

A riveting story of American fighting men, Outlaw Platoon is Lieutenant Sean Parnell’s stunning personal account of the legendary U.S. Army’s 10th Mountain Division’s heroic stand in the mountains of Afghanistan.

Acclaimed for its vivid, poignant, and honest recreation of sixteen brutal months of nearly continuous battle in the deadly Hindu Kesh, Outlaw Platoon is a Band of Brothers or We Were Soldiers Once and Young for the early 21st century—an action-packed, highly emotional true story of enormous sacrifice and bravery.

A magnificent account of heroes, renegades, infidels, and brothers, it stands with Sebastian Junger’s War as one of the most important books to yet emerge from the heat, smoke, and fire of America’s War in Afghanistan.

I was a USAF fighter pilot during the Cold War. I joke that I wasn’t in the military I was in the Air Force. Men and women on the pointy end have earned some get out of jail free cards and patience and forgiveness from everyone that wasn’t. Sean Parnell has helped me begin to see the lower right corner. His journey to becoming a servant leader is truly inspiring and a great template for anyone wanting to lead. I enjoy his fiction but his history with Outlaw company will make me a better leader, friend, and human. Thank you.

A gripping account of the war in Afghanistan brought on by the terrorist attack on 9/11 that killed over 2,000 innocent Americans.

I read nightly to help me fall asleep and I solely read about war, mainly conflict in the Middle East, as its an incredible weight that soldiers who have been in combat carry for the rest of their lives. This book will be the reason I re-up to give and serves as these men did. I’m a far better soldier and leader after reading this thank you.

This a very well written book. If this depicts the attitude and commitment of the real American soldier, their enemies must take note of this dedication and reconsider taking them on!

Outlaw platoon was definitely touching and inspiring. One of the best books I've read and for sure could not put the book down. It touched my heart and soul in ways I never thought to be touched. Forever in my heart the men that died for our country and gave their all to the very last and to those that went home safely, as well forever in my heart. God Bless you all for this amazing book.

This book is my inspiration to lead men in combat. I only hope to one day live up to the expectations that Sean Parnell has established for Infantry Officers in our Army.

This book is very good and gritty. I loved that the story is all about the troops on the point of the spear. No tales of boot camp and training, just jump onto the front lines and tell about the struggles and fight. Well done!

Read Parnell’s book to experience combat first-hand. You’ll go thru the early adrenaline rush of satisfying aggression...but that high is sadly followed with the reality of devastating deaths of his comrades in arms or watching a gate guard’s decapitation or having a little girl die in his arms or finding out his vile new interpreter is spilling his unit’s every secret to the enemy. You’ll share his deep frustration as he struggles with holding his soldiers accountable for making the right ethical calls (think of Vietnam’s Mi Lai massacre). And you’ll sense his utter disbelief of not being allowed to fight back when his troops constantly have visual knowledge of the supposed “good guys” (Pakistani military) clearly merging with the Taliban or the Haqqani network to fight the Americans.
