When I first had the honor of meeting Dr. Harold L. Gelb in the late 70s, he was already an icon. His lectures and writings had placed him at the forefront of the dental profession in the field of temporomandibular disorders. At our first meeting, I felt like a kid standing in front of his favorite movie hero. A man this important and well-known was actually taking the time to talk to me. I was thrilled. I don't remember what kind of man I was expecting to meet, but what I found was a warm, congenial and humble man who treated me like we had known each other for years. I knew I had just met someone special.
