Description

Ragged Dick, the fast-talking boy hero of classic rags-to-riches tale. Dick is a plucky street boy who smokes, gambles, and speaks ungrammatically—but he is also honest and hardworking, striving not for wealth and status, but for a steady job, a decent place to sleep, and respectability. A quintessential boy’s novel of adventure, romance, and coming of age, Ragged Dick brings to life the drama and perils of living among other young outcasts in the crowded streets of lower Manhattan. It is at the same time an exhilarating tale of one boy’s metamorphosis from a dirty street urchin to a handsome, self-respecting gentleman.

Wow. What was an assigned novel for class turned into an inspiring read. It doesn't matter who you are or what your circumstance, choose to live life however you desire and expect your road to be shaped that way. 10/10.

This book was read by a 8th grade class and it took it about 2 weeks to read with 3 chapters every school night. This book was one of the books that I enjoyed from the rest of the books that we have read but the reason I give 4 stars is sometimes the book goes to nowhere then it comes back but it got of topic some times. But this was one of of my favorite books -Robby hood
