Description

The New York Times Bestseller

Late one night, a plane lands on a deserted airstrip. Five dead bodies are found there the next morning. And now Vinnie LeBlanc is missing.

Vinnie is a member of the Ojibwa Indian tribe and he just might be Alex McKnight's best friend. So Alex can't help but be worried when he disappears. There's a deadly crime war creeping into Michigan's Upper Peninsula, and Alex never would have thought that his friend could be involved. But after an unexpected stranger arrives in town, Alex will soon find out that the stakes are higher than he ever could have imagined.

The latest in Steve Hamilton's Edgar Award–winning series, Die a Stranger just might be his boldest book yet.

The Alex McKnight series by Steve Hamilton is a great series, and 'Die a Stranger' is yet another winner! Good solid story, great characters, and Steve weaves a great yarn. You simply can't go wrong with Steve Hamilton!

I have read all the prior novels by Steve Hamilton, and I particularly enjoyed the eight previous Alex McKnight books. To me the action and dialogue of the supposedly familiar Paradise, MI characters just seem all out of kilter in this novel. It appears more like an author's attempt at developing those characters anew rather than a continuation of roles. Take the scenes where McKnight tussles with Vinnie's father (the primary weapon being a rolling pin, of all things!) and the subsequent meeting of Alex, Jackie and Vinnie's dad in the Glasgow tavern. The actions and dialogue reek of "Cheers meets F Troop," with Sam Mallone taking over for Alex McKnIght, the original Cheers bartender, Coach, now playing Jackie, and one of the F Troop indians playing the dad. Sad.
