Description
“Handpicked by the Parker estate to be the keeper of the flame for the Spenser franchise, award-winning author Ace Atkins…rises flawlessly to the occasion.”—Kirkus Reviews
When fourteen-year-old Mattie Sullivan asks Spenser to look into her mother’s murder, he’s not convinced by her claim that the wrong man was convicted. Mattie is street-smart, wise beyond her years, and now left to care for her younger siblings and an alcoholic grandmother in a dilapidated apartment in South Boston. But her need for closure and her determination to make things right hits Spenser where he lives.
As Spenser becomes more involved, he thinks that Mattie may be onto something after all. And he’s going to need the help of his friend Hawk to find peace for Mattie—a job that’s more dangerous than he ever thought.

4By MiguelsmexicoI loved Parker's writing. I may just love Ace's a tad more!Lullaby
2By Nickname noname67Honestly, it was NOT Robert B. Parker. It was an imitation. The characters had no depth. I know it really wasn't him but why try to recreate something that wasn't yours in the first place. Better to let Spenser, Susan, and Hawk be remembered well written than to read them as incomplete characters. I miss his writing, but I would rather reread a book than have his name and characters misrepresented. I'm not saying the author is a bad writer, he's just not Robert B. Parker. No one is.:)
5By MsGNCEasy, fun read!Spenser is back
4By RrobinsoncpaIt is good to see the Spenser franchise is alive and well. If you were to have been transported from the last page of the last book to the first page of this one without knowing of Parker's passing or that a man named Ace is now doing the writing, you would know that something is...off. The dialog is a bit more...scatological...than in the past, but the reintroduction of many of the old characters (halfway expected a Chollo or Lee Farrell sighting) we have come to know makes this trip back to Boston a welcome one.Lullaby
