Description

'Nothing' has long been conceived in both Western and Eastern cultures as an absence, lack, deficiency, or emptiness. But these perspectives have long been inadequate, as they have represented 'nothing' in a way that can be comprehended and understood, and have failed to relate to another kind of nothing that is ambiguous, uncertain, and above all creative.
In this innovative ebook, Li-E Chen and a number of contributing artists explore a new conception of 'nothing' as a state of preparation and creativity. Together they examine the conditions under which creativity can take place, conditions that are always new and can never be repeated. This is a 'nothing' that lies beyond the functional, political, traditional, historical, and representational, making no reference to self, memory, identity, or meaning
I am your anti-matter developed from Li-E Chen's "Cloud Clock Love," two-day durational artistic laboratory that took place in September 2011 at the Siobhan Davies Studios in London. This research and development project was supported by the National Lottery through the Arts Council England. The ebook includes contributions from Ying Mei Duan, Victoria Gray, Bean, Will Fung, Indigo J. L., Aoife Collins, and Nathan Widder.
Li-E Chen is a London-based independent artist, originally from mainland China, whose work crosses a broad range of artistic forms, including digital art, theatre, dance, live art, visual art, installation, and new media.
