2 B R 0 2 B
By Kurt Vonnegut
- Release Date: 2007-01-01
- Genre: Sci-Fi & Fantasy
Description
It is a science fiction short story by Kurt Vonnegut, originally published in the digest magazine Worlds of If Science Fiction, January 1962, and collected in Vonnegut's Bagombo Snuff Box (1999). The title is pronounced "2 B R naught 2 B", referencing the famous phrase "to be, or not to be" from William Shakespeare's Hamlet, Prince of Denmark. In this story, the title refers to the telephone number one dials to schedule an assisted suicide with the Federal Bureau of Termination. Vonnegut's 1965 novel God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater describes a story by this name, attributing it to his recurring character Kilgore Trout, [1] although the plot summary given is closer in nature to the eponymous tale from the short-story collection Welcome to the Monkey House.

4By OnleydwiVonnegut is my favorite author, but this tale is a little thin. It does remind me, however, of his amazing short story, “Welcome to the Monkey House.”Fantastic

2By jkp1187One note song. Interesting premise. Poor denouement.Short but Sharp
4By kateelamThis short story is only 15 pages long so I won't go into detail, but this was the most entertaining 15 pages I've read in a while!Short story
5By $&&aechawopteryzThought provoking.Save the Planet
5By elt223The to natural progression of anti-human environmentalism. While a human is ‘just another animal’ his actions are destroying the earth; poppycock !!The height of hubris!2BR02B
3By herbertostThis is one of the most depressing views of the future that I have ever read! What makes it so depressing is that it seems to be informed by Mr. v’s possible WW II knowledge of the death camps and the earlier eugenics views that many held throughout that time.Woah
5By a brick with a personalityI didn’t know what to expect going in. A very curious and dark thought experiment. It changed so suddenly towards the end there. I’d imagine the writing would be much more fluid in its native languageClever as Always
5By Toasty BumI had downloaded this book in the free section of the Books app. I think it’s a delight to have access to these books and many more on the App. Along with this book I downloaded Swift’s, “A Modest Proposal”. In hopes to compare the two with regard to their “Ideas” of population control. A funny albeit grim read it definitely feels right at home in the dystopia that’s has become the year 2020. It gave my a chuckle or two, and in such a short time to be able to full flesh out these characters is a feat in and of itself. Love Vonnegut Jr. and I always will. Keep reading, A.Great quick read
5By SaerukaThis is one of my favorite authors and he never disappoints. It’s a shame it’s so short.Wow
5By ikantevenThat’s all I can say; besides brilliant.Good quick read

5By dstick89Nice short story, by a great author.Master of the short story
5By PreZnSHow many worlds reside in the vast mind of one Kurt Vonnegut Jr? Truly engrossing in less than 20 pages. Not Perfect,,,
5By CeriseFernIt’s by no means a perfect story, and given the option I would have rated it a 4.5. However I did very much enjoy it. Though predictable I give that to it’s age, and my biggest complaint is how overly explained 2BR02B is as if the reader is stupid. It’s short and simple, it conveys its message clearly and it kept my attention.Pretty dark
3By ethan0331baxterA suitably quick ending to such a short story. I’d say it’s a good read with some good insight on human nature.2BO02B, that is the question, isn’t it?
4By LeRoi ParisInteresting story, as are all of Vonnegut’s. Has a good point. I recommend everyone reads at least Welcome to the Monkey House, then you’ll be hooked on Vonnegut and learn a very different perspective on, well, everything!2BRO2B
5By Double-play ballI love a story that makes you think this one does.
