Description

Sometimes you just have to take flight.

A summer in New Orleans is exactly what Allie needs before starting college. Accepting her dad’s invitation to work at his hotel offers an escape from her ex-boyfriend and the chance to spend the summer with her best friend. Meeting a guy is the last thing on her mind—until she sees Levi.

Unable to resist the infuriating yet alluring Levi, Allie finds herself at the center of a supernatural society and forced to decide between following the path she has always trusted or saving a city that might just save her.

The writing is ok. Hugh school level creative writing. It’s the characters that are truly awful. There’s no chemistry. The female lead changes her mind constantly and acts completely contrary to what she’s saying. The best friend is a bimbo. The main lead comes off as an entitled predator. And the ages of the characters don’t line up at all to their lifestyle or actions. Hard pass on this author.

I loved that this wasn't your "normal" shifter book. I read the whole series in a weekend. There were parts that I wanted to smack Allie and Levi because they didn't talk/ tell the truth on something. But then again if they would have, the book would have ended sooner. 😉The book had me wanting to find out what would happen next. I liked that there wasn't a lot of "filler", only want was needed in the book. I dislike books that put a lot of "filler" in just to make the book longer. This is not one of those.

I want to start this on a positive note. And for that I will say that the writing in this story is not bad. It feels a little rushed and unnatural at times, but all in all the writing is pretty good. That being said... No. Just no. Maybe I am misjudging and this series will do a complete 180 in the next book, but I will not be reading any more of them to find out. Levi and Allie should not end up together. I thought he seemed overly cocky from the very beginning (which is common in this type of book) but, unlike the typical male lead, the more I read about him, the more he made me uncomfortable. He is creepy. He is possessive. He is controlling. He is just plain wrong on so many levels. And she needs to grow a backbone because, although the book tries to make her seem spunky, she is anything but and is willing to let these people talk her into just about anything... ***SPOILER ALERT*** For one thing, she did not even accept the ring as a normal present. He had to physically grab her hand and shove it on her finger (which is creepy in and of itself). But he actually tricked someone into bonding with him for life. That’s messed up. There is quite literally no scenario that could ever explain that and make it okay. And, as if that weren’t enough, he’s gonna force her to act like she AGREED TO THIS?!?! And she is just gonna go along with this?!?! She should be screaming. She should be trying to strangle him. Or throw things at him. She should not be just quietly sulking at the “engagement party” WHEN SHE NEVER AGREED TO ANY OF THIS. All in all. Not a fan. If I were in her shoes I would chop my finger off, leave the ring behind, and leave town for good.

It started out well and definitely had its moments. It had potential. Unfortunately I found the heroine annoying after awhile and was less than excited about the end. I’m not interested in continuing the series.

I love this series! I enjoyed the setting as well as the romance but I really like how Allie doesn’t follow Levi around and depend on him. I really enjoyed this series and would definitely recommend it

I started this book a few months ago and wasn't sure about it, but I decided to give it another try and I'm glad I did. I've had the worst book hangover all week. I have read the entire series in a few days and am moving on to the spin off Empire Chronicles. I hope Allie and Levi crossover to the new series too. This is a must read if you like paranormal romance.

So irritating! I couldn't even finish the book. The girl is so weak and annoying...absolutely no backbone. None of the characters were interesting. Don't waste your time. There are plenty other good books in this genre, so skip this book/series.
