5By nancsingsI have read and loved several J.A. Jance books. This is a very touching story which makes the Vietnam war heroes - yes heroes - real people who serve our country well. Whether we liked the war itself or not, the people who fought were serving their country and we a a people who live here. The touching story of these people brings a wonderful truth to us about the years following that dreadful war.Second Watch

4By Christie FanMidway through this awesome book I was sadden because I had the sense that J.A. Jance's writing skills were beginning to fade with age. There is a conversation with Ross Conners that does not take into account a previous (important) one that is crucial to the main plot. I thought she had forgotten about that conversation - which was crucial to the re-opening of the cold case, the crux of the mystery for Second Watch. It was only at the end of the book that I realized that the author was most likely just distracted by one of the sub-plots running throughout the book. The story of the soldier was very personal to her and his history completely factual other than the main character tie-ins. I am sure she was more focused on that storyline than the one that allowed her to classify the book under the Mystery Genre. Overall a very good read and I look forward to future books in this series.Mary Jane
