Description
In New York, Walt Lawson is about to lose his girlfriend Vanessa. In Los Angeles, Raymond and Mia James are about to lose their house. Within days, none of it will matter.
When Vanessa dies of the flu, Walt is devastated. But she isn't the last. The virus quickly kills billions, reducing New York to an open grave and LA to a chaotic wilderness of violence and fires. As Raymond and Mia hole up in an abandoned mansion, where they learn to function without electricity, running water, or neighbors, Walt begins an existential walk to LA, where Vanessa had planned to move when she left him. He expects to die along the way.
Months later, a massive vessel appears above Santa Monica Bay. Walt is attacked by a crablike monstrosity in a mountain stream. The virus that ended humanity wasn't created by humans. It was inflicted from outside. The colonists who sent it are ready to finish the job--and Earth's survivors may be too few and too weak to resist.

5By damndirtyusernameI got this book a few years back as a promo and put it on my phone and promptly forgot about it. Fast forward to two weeks ago; forgot a book to read while on the bus and remembered I had this. Thank god! I read it too quickly- not just for bus commute; this replaced other time killing devices including games and other books. All in all, good read, great character development and a super interesting premise, I'd recommend!Interesting but not gripping
3By Obe RonThe book started a little slow for me. Took a while to get into the plot. The book improved toward the end. Will probably tackle the next one to see where the author takes the story.Outstanding
5By RonnieT82This book grabbed me and caught me by surprise!!! Awesome amazing read. Full of adventure and you never know what to expect with the turn of every page. I loved it.Breakers
5By Rom1956Great read. Pretty hopeless though. Characters are real, human, plausible. I expected more human on human violence but I assume the 90-99 percent loss of life made supplies more availiable. Couldn't put it down. Thx for the hard work that writing is!Breakers
3By Duder-inoThis was an easy read. I felt the author did a great job detailing information to shape each character, and make them more personable. The story line was intriguing enough to hold your attention. The issue I had was when it came to the ending. The story would build and build, only to abruptly finish. I felt more resolution was needed.Beautiful
5By SandraCeciliaI HATE when authors give you a free 300 page 'book' that gets you sucked in and then ends right before anything climactic happens. This book delivers. Packed with amazing writing, dialogue, descriptions, the entire plot had me captivated and I was looking for zombie novels when I accidentally downloaded this. No disappointment after finishing this, and I'm looking forward to buying the next one. Thank you!Breakers
5By clueless366This book got me off on an adventure that has kept me on the edge of my seat for a great ride in a great series. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves SF.Excellent Read, Intelligently Written, & Hard to Put Down!
5By MathOsGuruI downloaded this book for something to fill my down time after reading a different series that was great. What I found was that I simply could not put the book down after the first few pages. The author has excellent writing skills, and the characters pop off the pages, meaning they are believable and identifiable; quite the feat for any author. In short, I will not ruin it for anyone else by giving a synoptic walk through. I will leave that for the reader. Yes, I must now buy the entire series ... it IS that great!Great flow
5By Ghosst36I really enjoyed this book. Without spoiling it, I enjoyed the characters.BREAKERS

5By ClaudiadsI really enjoyed reading this book. The plot was interesting, and events followed in believable order. Characters were well developed and the switching between Raymond and Walter was easily understood. Looking forward to Book 2!A fun read :)
5By Ipad rckrVivid imagery. A good, coherent storyline. Well-portrayed characters such that the mind's eye sees them clearly. Peppered humor. My only complaint is a ship that is built for space and atmosphere ... But without it, this would be a different tale ;)Worth
5By PolyphemusiEven though I thought the synopsis would ruin the story I read it anyway. It didn't ruin a single thing.Breakers
