And the Mountains Echoed
By Khaled Hosseini
- Release Date: 2013-05-21
- Genre: Literary Fiction
Description
An unforgettable novel about finding a lost piece of yourself in someone else.
Khaled Hosseini, the #1 New York Times–bestselling author of The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns, has written a new novel about how we love, how we take care of one another, and how the choices we make resonate through generations. In this tale revolving around not just parents and children but brothers and sisters, cousins and caretakers, Hosseini explores the many ways in which families nurture, wound, betray, honor, and sacrifice for one another; and how often we are surprised by the actions of those closest to us, at the times that matter most. Following its characters and the ramifications of their lives and choices and loves around the globe—from Kabul to Paris to San Francisco to the Greek island of Tinos—the story expands gradually outward, becoming more emotionally complex and powerful with each turning page.

And the mountains echoed
4By NoBrainerToMeVery skilled and talented author. The chapters do not always flow well so you may struggle to pick up the story from one to the next. I don’t understand why so many authors have to now interject homosexuality in their stories. 95 %+ of the world is heterosexual and it would have been a better book without it.Beautiful and tragic
4By ReaderFan2017777It is beautifully written. Carefully tells of challenges for the simple people. Important to know this even if fictional.Emotionally gripping
5By Rekrap HarmatI’ve read “Kite Runner” and “A Thousand Splendid Suns”. Compared to those two novels this one is more emotional.A Beautiful Story, Beautifully Told
5By JLamb2016“The rope that pulls you from the flood can become a noose around your neck.” A collection of nine short stories of sorts that all intertwine with the central story that starts off in the beginning. The writing is so beautiful and full of charm, sadness, and hope.Tearjerker
5By newtonsspawnI don’t usually get so emotionally involved when reading fiction. But this book hit me hard. Superb writing. Worth every minute of your time.Mixed feelings
3By mom eyesDo not go into this book expecting Kite Runner or Thousand Splendid Suns as this is more of a super long novella exploring the complexities of human nature. It’s far more meditative and slow than The Kite Runner or A Thousand Splendid Suns to say the least. Overall, I would still recommend it, but if one were to dislike it, I wouldn’t be in the least bit surprised.Dragged out.
3By mdawood2I didn’t like this book as much as Hosseini’s other books. I felt like there was no central message or theme. It felt like it was all over the place. I kept reading it just so I can be finished with it and to me, the ending wasn’t worth it.And The Mountains Echoed
1By debdsdrleThe first 2/3 of this book was outstanding! The characters and settings were very well developed. About 15 times I was brought to pause and reflect on the words the writer had just written. Then all of a sudden everything became rushed! The dialogue the setting the character changes many times I didn’t even know who was speaking! Terrible and frustrating! I loved the Kite Runner and A thousand splendid Suns, both deserving of five star review. This book I’ve only given one star it just left me feeling so frustrated. The kite runner
5By SenorfelixExcellentAbsolutely beautiful.
5By Harmonic LionI came across this book after having read the author's first two. The second was better than the first, and this one was better than the previous one. The characters have such depth and rich backgrounds. They compliment the main storyline and make for a beautiful woven piece of art. This is by far the best book I've read in a long while.Great book!
4By 9uzI am a huge Khaled Hosseini fan! I have read all his books, he is an amazing story teller. His writing in "And The Mountains Echoed" is beautiful and heart wrenching.Total disappointment
1By LaliylahIrrelevant characters, irrelevant information, obvious missed connections left unaddressed. Disappointingly underwhelming.Thousand Splendid Suns
5By Merry JerryOutstanding story thoroughly engrossing, emotionally attractive a compelling read.Confused about half way in
3By Long legionWhile I enjoyed the book, I don't believe it was up to the standard of his other two novels. I got lost about half way in when the first person protagonist changed several times and I couldn't keep up with "who" was talkingGood
4By Ma5566Great storiesSo much beauty
5By PeeWee&GumbyI am by all means obsessed with Khaled Hosseini. I love what he stands for and love that he brings awareness to the middle eastern cultures while highlighting it's beauty. Read this book. It's just as lovely as the others. And the Mountain Echoed
5By Hama806I was so excited to read another novel by Khaled Hosseini. This book started off amazing but then nearly fizzled out. Unlike "The Kite Runner" and "A Thousand Splendid Suns," which brought out nearly every emotion in me, I wasn't as moved with this book and I felt less invested in the characters. Both Hosseini's previous novels are a tough act to follow, so maybe my expectations were high. Overall this book was pretty good.Very disjointed
1By DanielleAntoniaGonsalvesI enjoyed the last two books by Khaled Hosseini so I was eager to read this one. Unfortunately, it was a huge disappointment. It was very disjointed, characters and story lines were abandoned. I forced myself to finish reading it, hoping that somehow everything would come together but it never did. It feels like a completely different writer than his other two books honestly.Best thing
5By Banana 62846637I love it
