Description

THE #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER WITH MILLIONS OF COPIES SOLD

The blockbuster hit that kids (and grown-ups!) will enjoy reading again and again—a hilarious, colorful picture book celebrating creativity and self-expression, hailed as “fresh and funny” (The Wall Street Journal) and “utterly original” (San Francisco Chronicle).

WINNER OF THE E.B. WHITE READ-ALOUD AWARD • A KIRKUS REVIEWS BEST PICTURE BOOK OF THE CENTURY • ONE OF THE ATLANTIC'S 65 ESSENTIAL CHILDREN'S BOOKS

Poor Duncan just wants to color. But when he opens his box of crayons, he finds only written letters, all saying the same thing: His crayons have had enough! They quit! Blue Crayon needs a break from coloring all those bodies of water. Black Crayon wants to be used for more than just outlining. And Orange and Yellow are no longer speaking—each believes he is the true color of the sun. What can Duncan possibly do to appease all the crayons and get them back to doing what they do best?

With giggle-inducing text from Drew Daywalt, and bold, bright illustrations from Oliver Jeffers, The Day the Crayons Quit is a modern classic.

Very creative story! I plan on using this book for the first week of school for my Kindergarten class. I want the students to take care of their supplies and use them correctly. This book will really get them thinking about how they use their crayons and creativity. We can also revisit this book for character point of view and letter writing.

Everyone who colors will relate to this book. The illustrations are cute & simple, but with 1,000 words. I'll probably have to read this every night for a while. Nice job!

I saw the hard book copy at target....started reading it and thought....this is too funny of a concept. I thought my son would love it....but he isn't necessarily ready for the responsibility of taking care of books. Figuring out it was here, was a great treat. I can read it to him and still keep the book intact. The book of course is clever, cute and humorous at times. We loved it!

My kids love this story. My 1st grader came home from school asking for this book because his teacher read it in class. Colorful, creative and funny! The only setback is the text itself. I get the author was going for the look of the crayons writing the letters but it being so sloppy and a mix of cursive and print made it difficult for my son to read it himself. Especially since they aren't even teaching cursive at that young an age. But both my boys love the story.
